Foot features and specs

  • Performance
Foot is designed to be a fast and lightweight terminal emulator, which can help improve system performance, especially on resource-constrained devices.
  • Wayland Support
Foot is optimized for the Wayland display server protocol, providing a modern graphical architecture for Linux users who prefer Wayland over X11.
  • Features
Despite its minimalist approach, Foot includes useful features such as dynamic font resizing, hyperlink navigation, and colored emojis.
  • Customization
Foot offers various configuration options allowing users to customize keyboard shortcuts, color schemes, and other settings to suit personal preferences.
  • Security
Foot employs a security-oriented approach, including privileges separation to enhance safety, making it a reliable terminal choice for security-conscious users.

Possible disadvantages of Foot

  • Wayland-Only
As a Wayland-exclusive terminal emulator, Foot cannot be used with the X11 display server, limiting its accessibility for users who primarily operate on X11.
  • Limited Functionality
Some users may find Foot's minimalist design limits its functionality compared to more feature-rich terminal emulators like GNOME Terminal or Konsole.
  • Configuration Complexity
While customizable, Foot's configuration might be less intuitive for users unfamiliar with writing or editing configuration files, potentially posing a learning curve.
  • Community and Support
As a relatively less known terminal emulator compared to larger projects, Foot might have a smaller community and fewer resources for troubleshooting and support.

Possible disadvantages of AllCode

  • Limited Public Brand Recognition
Compared to larger consulting firms like Accenture or Deloitte, AllCode has relatively limited brand recognition, which may make some enterprise decision-makers hesitant to engage them for large-scale projects.
  • Smaller Team Size
As a smaller boutique consultancy, AllCode may have limited bandwidth to handle multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, potentially leading to longer wait times or resource constraints during peak periods.
  • Limited Public Case Studies
There is a relatively limited number of detailed public case studies or client testimonials available, making it harder for prospective clients to thoroughly evaluate their track record and results.
  • AWS-Centric Focus
While their AWS expertise is a strength, their heavy focus on AWS could be a drawback for organizations committed to other cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform who need multi-cloud or alternative cloud expertise.
  • Geographic Limitations
As a US-based company, clients in other regions may face challenges related to time zone differences and localized support, which could impact communication and project turnaround for international engagements.

  • GitHub to Codeberg: My Experience
The end result doesn't seem like it's any better for users? The benefits for the maintainer are also unclear... I just tried Codeberg - I get constant "Making sure you're not a bot!" anime girls - The login with Github is hidden behind a minuscule drop down arrow. Seemingly intentionally obscured.. Either have the option clearly, or don't have it at all.. - the format is identical to github with zero improvements... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • foot with true-color tmux support (ร  la Alacritty)
I find foot, the default terminal in Wayland, either supremely underrated or SEO-proof due to its name. It's easy to configure and fast, and I especially love being able to include other files like color schemes. So when I started using tmux dailly I was dismayed I might have to switch to Alacritty or kitty for Neovim to look right, because Googling "foot ________" does not lead anywhere, and its documentation is... - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago

  • RGFW: Single-header C99 window abstraction library
I've seen some interesting work in doing Wayland by hand: https://gaultier.github.io/blog/wayland_from_scratch.html I'd also look at the work done on minimal wayland projects like [foot](https://codeberg.org/dnkl/foot), which supports wayland well and seems to be written by hand (see: https://codeberg.org/dnkl/foot/src/branch/master/wayland.c). - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • Okay, I Like WezTerm
I've migrated to Wez already. I actually had issues with them too but wasn't as bad as Kovid. More like what you said "Not our problem, it's X's problem." (Brew devs love to do this too) Leaves a bad taste in my mouth but dismissal is better than dismissal + gaslighting + insulting. Plus, Alacritty just hasn't been a great editor.
