Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing FoodSafe.co and Opalstack.

What makes your product unique?

FoodSafe.co's answer

FoodSafe was built by a real food & drink founder who faced the compliance struggle first-hand - so we know exactly where the pain points are. Unlike other platforms, FoodSafe is tailor-made for small food and drink producers, with no unnecessary complexity or sky-high costs.

From custom record sheets, batch tracking, and traceability, to one-click audit reports, FoodSafe makes food safety compliance effortless, affordable, and accessible - all for less than the price of a coffee a day.

It’s your entire compliance system in one simple, mobile-friendly platform, designed to help you stay audit-ready and focus on what you do best: growing your business.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

FoodSafe.co's answer

Because FoodSafe was built for you - the small food and drink producer who's tired of overcomplicated, overpriced compliance tools.

We focus on what matters: simple setup, mobile-first logging, effortless traceability, and one-click audit reports - without the bloated features or enterprise pricing.

FoodSafe gives you total control over your compliance, scales with your growth, and keeps your team aligned - all for less than the cost of a coffee a day.

No stress, no massive learning curve, just smart, practical compliance made for real-world food and drink businesses.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

FoodSafe.co's answer

FoodSafe is built for small food and drink businesses - from solo founders just getting SALSA certified, to growing teams managing daily compliance across production lines.

Our users are passionate makers, bakers, brewers, and producers who care about quality but don’t have time for endless paperwork or complicated systems.

They want a simple, affordable way to stay audit-ready, meet standards like SALSA, BRCGS, HACCP, and ISO 22000, and focus on what they love - making incredible products, not managing spreadsheets.

What's the story behind your product?

FoodSafe.co's answer

FoodSafe was born out of real frustration. Our founder, Paddy, ran a small kombucha business and struggled through the chaos of getting SALSA certified - drowning in paperwork, spreadsheets, and endless record-keeping.

When he searched for a simple, affordable solution, nothing fit. Everything was too expensive, too complicated, or not built for small food and drink businesses.

So, Paddy built FoodSafe: an intuitive, mobile-friendly platform designed to take the stress out of compliance.

Today, FoodSafe helps small producers like you stay audit-ready, protect your certifications, and run your businesses without getting buried in admin.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

FoodSafe.co's answer

FoodSafe is built using modern, scalable technologies to ensure security, speed, and a seamless user experience.

Our platform is developed with React for a smooth, responsive interface, backed by Node.js for robust server-side operations.

We’re hosted on AWS infrastructure, which is ISO 27001 certified, providing enterprise-level security, scalability, and reliability for all users.

We also leverage secure authentication with AWS Cognito and use industry best practices to ensure data integrity, protection, and performance across the platform.
