Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing FolioDoc and StackTips 2.0.

What's the story behind your product?

FolioDoc's answer

I watched professionals waste hours every week sending reminder emails for missing documents. Tax season is the worst โ€” accountants chase dozens of clients for the same paperwork every year. I built FolioDoc to automate that entire workflow: create a checklist, set a deadline, and let the system handle the reminders.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

FolioDoc's answer

Django and Django REST Framework on the backend, Next.js with TypeScript on the frontend, PostgreSQL for the database, Celery with Redis for background jobs and email scheduling, ClamAV for antivirus scanning, and nginx as the reverse proxy. Hosted on Hetzner in Germany.

What makes your product unique?

FolioDoc's answer

Zero friction for recipients. They click a magic link, see a checklist of what's needed, upload their files, and they're done. No account creation, no passwords, no app to install. Most document collection tools force both sides to create accounts โ€” FolioDoc only requires the sender to have one.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

FolioDoc's answer

Simplicity. Competitors like Content Snare and Clustdoc are powerful but complex โ€” they take hours to set up and overwhelm clients with features. FolioDoc takes 2 minutes to create a request and your client needs zero training to use it. Plus, every upload is scanned with ClamAV antivirus, and the whole platform is GDPR compliant and hosted in Germany.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

FolioDoc's answer

Accountants, tax advisors, HR teams, consultants, freelancers and law firms โ€” anyone who regularly collects documents from clients, employees, or partners and is tired of chasing people over email.
