Flexilay is a modern layby platform that helps ecommerce merchants increase sales by offering customers a flexible way to pay over time—without credit, lending or the complexity of traditional Buy Now Pay Later services.

Customers can choose a deposit, payment frequency and schedule that suits their budget, then make payments through Stripe until their purchase is fully paid. Once the payment plan is complete, the merchant fulfils the order. This provides a responsible, debt-free alternative that helps shoppers budget while giving merchants another way to convert customers who may not purchase upfront.

Unlike BNPL providers, Flexilay does not provide finance, perform credit checks or assume lending risk. We integrate with existing payment infrastructure, allowing merchants to retain ownership of their customer relationships while continuing to receive secure payment processing through Stripe.

Our platform is built for modern ecommerce, starting with Shopify and expanding to WooCommerce and other leading commerce platforms. Merchants can configure deposits, payment frequencies, plan lengths and business rules, while customers enjoy a seamless checkout experience, automated payment reminders and a self-service payment portal.

Our business model is simple and scalable: merchants continue using their existing payment provider, while Flexilay earns a small transaction fee for managing the payment plan.

Our vision is to become the global standard for digital layby, giving millions of merchants an affordable, easy-to-integrate flexible payment solution that complements existing checkout options and helps consumers purchase more responsibly.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing FlexiLay and Flexengine.io.

What makes your product unique?

FlexiLay's answer

FlexiLay modernises traditional layby for ecommerce. Unlike Buy Now Pay Later providers, FlexiLay doesn't offer credit or lending—it enables customers to pay for purchases over time before receiving their order. This creates a responsible, debt-free payment option while allowing merchants to increase conversions without relying on third-party finance providers.

The platform integrates directly with existing payment infrastructure like Stripe, giving merchants full control over their customer relationships, configurable payment plans, automated payment collection, customer self-service portals and a simple, low-cost pricing model.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

FlexiLay's answer

FlexiLay is designed for merchants who want to offer payment flexibility without becoming dependent on lending platforms.

Key advantages include:

  • No credit checks or lending approvals.
  • Customers budget using their own money instead of borrowing.
  • Lower transaction costs than many BNPL solutions.
  • Merchants retain ownership of their customers.
  • Fully automated payment schedules and reminders.
  • Easy integration into existing ecommerce stores.
  • Built on trusted payment infrastructure through Stripe.
  • Supports multiple ecommerce platforms, starting with Shopify.

For merchants, it's another way to convert more customers while keeping greater control over their business.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

FlexiLay's answer

FlexiLay is currently preparing for public launch and onboarding its first production merchants.

Our focus is on partnering with forward-thinking ecommerce businesses that want to offer customers a modern, debt-free payment option. While customer names are not yet public, we're building the platform to support merchants ranging from small independent retailers through to high-volume ecommerce brands across multiple industries.

As FlexiLay grows, we'll be publishing customer case studies and success stories demonstrating the impact on conversion rates, customer retention and sales growth.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

FlexiLay's answer

FlexiLay is built for ecommerce businesses of all sizes that sell products customers may prefer to pay for over time.

Typical merchants include:

Shopify stores. - WooCommerce stores. - Fashion and apparel retailers. - Electronics and technology stores. - Sporting goods retailers. - Furniture and homewares businesses. - Jewellery and luxury goods stores. - Automotive and powersports retailers. - Specialty retailers with higher average order values.

It's also ideal for consumers looking for a flexible, debt-free alternative to traditional Buy Now Pay Later services.

What's the story behind your product?

FlexiLay's answer

FlexiLay was created after seeing merchants repeatedly lose genuine sales because customers couldn't justify paying the full purchase price upfront, yet either didn't qualify for Buy Now Pay Later or simply didn't want to take on debt.

Traditional layby had largely disappeared from ecommerce despite solving a real problem for budget-conscious shoppers. We saw an opportunity to reinvent it using modern technology.

Rather than creating another lending product, we built a platform that helps merchants offer flexible payment plans using existing payment infrastructure. The result is a simple, transparent and responsible way for customers to pay over time while giving merchants another powerful conversion tool.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

FlexiLay's answer

FlexiLay is built using modern cloud-native technologies, including:

  • Shopify App Platform
  • Shopify Checkout Extensions
  • Shopify App Bridge
  • Stripe
  • REST APIs
  • Webhooks
