Possible disadvantages

  • Limited advanced features
While the tools cover basic use cases well, they may lack advanced options or configurations that more specialized standalone tools or IDE plugins would offer.
  • Internet dependency
As a web-based platform, it requires an active internet connection to access the tools, which can be inconvenient when working offline or in environments with limited connectivity.
  • No API or automation support
The tools are designed for manual, interactive use in the browser and do not offer APIs or CLI integrations that would allow developers to automate repetitive tasks in their workflows.
  • Limited customization options
Users have limited ability to customize tool behavior, save preferences, or configure default settings since there is no account system or persistent configuration.
  • Potential reliability concerns
Being a free web tool, there are no guaranteed SLAs or uptime commitments, and the platform could potentially go offline or discontinue services without notice, making it risky to depend on for critical workflows.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing FiscalCompass and DeveloperTools.Tech.

What makes your product unique?

FiscalCompass's answer

FiscalCompass does more than simply answer a tax-related question: each answer follows a fixed structure (assessment, applicable legal framework, quantified impact, action plan, points to watch out for) and cites specific legal sources rather than making general statements. An internal citation verification system checks that the tax treaty articles cited actually correspond to their content, to avoid the errors that a general-purpose AI assistant might make regarding international tax law.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

FiscalCompass's answer

General-purpose multi-country tax calculators (such as Settel and GlobalNomadTaxHub) deal with the tax regime of the destination country but do not take into account the specific French rules: tax residence as defined in Article 4 B of the French General Tax Code (CGI), exit tax, and bilateral tax treaties between France and the destination country. FiscalCompass is specifically designed to address this France ↔ host country relationship, with nine country guides already documented and sourced (Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Mauritius).

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

FiscalCompass's answer

People involved in international mobility — entrepreneurs, employees, cross-border workers and pensioners — who are preparing for or have recently completed a move abroad and need to understand their tax obligations before, during and after their departure.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

FiscalCompass's answer

React and TanStack Start (SSR), Tailwind CSS, Supabase (authentication and database), the OpenAI API via the Vercel AI SDK for the chatbot, Stripe for payments, hosted on Cloudflare.
