FileZilla is an FTP, or file transfer protocol, client. It lets individuals transfer single files or batches to a web server. For many years, FTP was the standard for website design. Read more about FileZilla.

Light Cloud deploys your whole app from a GitHub repo. You connect the repository once, then every push builds and deploys by itself. No CI to set up, and you don't need a Dockerfile.

What you can deploy

Static sites and single-page apps go out over a global CDN. That covers React, Vue, Angular, Svelte and Next.js static export.

Backends run as containers that scale with traffic. Node with Express, Fastify or NestJS. Python with FastAPI, Flask or Django. Also Go, Java, Ruby, PHP, .NET, and Next.js in SSR mode.

If your app needs data, add managed PostgreSQL in the same project. Connection details land in your environment variables, so the backend reaches it without extra setup.

We work out the framework from your repo. If you already have a Dockerfile, we use yours.

What's included

Connect a branch and it gets its own URL, built on every push. Delete the branch and the environment goes with it, so old previews don't pile up.

Point a domain at any app or environment. Add one DNS record at your registrar and the certificate is issued and renewed after that.

Build logs stream while the build runs. Runtime logs and metrics stay with the environment they belong to.

Every deploy keeps its commit, author, duration and build log. Redeploy an older one to roll back.

You can also skip the dashboard. Add our MCP server to Claude and ask it to create an app, deploy it, or show you why the last deploy failed. Same thing works in VS Code with GitHub Copilot.

FileZilla features and specs

FileZilla is available on multiple operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux, which makes it accessible and versatile for users across different platforms.
  • User-Friendly Interface
FileZilla has an intuitive and clean interface that allows both beginners and advanced users to navigate and use its features efficiently.
  • Supports Multiple Protocols
It supports FTP, FTPS, and SFTP, allowing users to choose the most appropriate protocol for their needs.
  • Large File Support
FileZilla is capable of transferring files larger than 4GB, which is beneficial for users dealing with large data sets.
  • Drag and Drop
Users can easily drag and drop files between the local and remote servers, making it easier to manage file transfers.
  • Bookmarking
FileZilla allows the setting of bookmarks for easy and repeat access to frequently visited directories.
  • Resume and Transfer Queue
It supports resuming interrupted transfers and has a comprehensive transfer queue that enables batch processing.
  • Directory Comparison
The tool provides a directory comparison feature which helps in identifying differences between local and remote directories.

Possible disadvantages of FileZilla

  • Security Concerns
FileZilla downloads can sometimes bundle additional adware or unwanted software during installation if not downloaded from the official website.
  • No Built-in Encryption
FileZilla does not offer built-in encryption for storing site credentials, posing a potential security risk.
  • Limited Advanced Features
While it is feature-rich, some more advanced functionalities available in enterprise-level FTP clients are not present in FileZilla.
  • Interface Dated
While functional, some users feel the design of FileZillaโ€™s interface is somewhat outdated compared to modern application standards.
  • Complex for New Users
Despite its user-friendly interface, setting up FTP connections and configuring settings can be complex for users with little technical knowledge.
  • Community Support
Being an open-source project, user support is primarily community-driven which might not be as prompt or comprehensive as professional support in commercial software.

Light Cloud features and specs

  • Git-based deploys
Connect a GitHub repo and every push to a connected branch builds and deploys automatically.
  • Framework detection
We read your repo to find the framework, package manager, build command and output directory. You can override any of it.
  • Preview environments
Every branch you connect gets its own URL with its own build settings and variables. Open a pull request and the preview builds on its own.
  • Custom domains
Attach a domain to any app or environment. You add one DNS record at your registrar and that's the only manual step.
  • Automatic SSL
Certificates are issued and renewed for you. Nothing to install or rotate.
  • Scale to zero
Containers default to zero minimum instances, so an app nobody is using stops running and stops billing.
  • Managed PostgreSQL
Provision a Postgres instance in the same project as your app. Pick the tier, region and storage size, and change them later as the app grows.
  • Static Site Hosting
Static sites and single-page apps are uploaded to object storage and served from a global CDN.
  • Container hosting
Backends and SSR apps run as containers that scale with traffic, including down to zero when idle.
  • Database auto-wiring
Connection details are injected into your app as environment variables, so the backend reaches the database without extra setup.
  • High availability option
Turn on HA for databases running workloads that can't take downtime.
  • Protected production
The production environment is marked separately and branch activity never touches it.
  • Automatic preview cleanup
Delete the branch and its environment goes with it, so stale previews don't accumulate.
  • Dockerfile handling
If your repo has a Dockerfile we use it. If it doesn't, one is generated for your framework.
  • Hourly usage billing
You pay for compute that runs, the Postgres tier you provisioned, storage, bandwidth and build minutes. No per-project fees.
  • Live build logs
Build output streams while the build runs and stays readable on the deploy record afterwards.
  • Runtime logs and metrics
Logs and metrics for each environment sit in the same console you deployed from, filtered to the environment you're looking at.
  • Deploy history
Every deploy keeps its commit, message, author, duration, status and full build log.
  • One-click rollback
Redeploy any earlier commit to go back to a version that worked.
  • Deploy from Claude
Add our MCP server to Claude, sign in once, and it can create apps, deploy them, manage environments and read logs from a conversation.
  • Deploy from VS Code
Use @lightcloud in GitHub Copilot Chat, with commands covering the whole loop: /deploy, /redeploy, /status, /list, /plan and /destroy.
  • Deploy without a repo
Push a local folder straight from the VS Code extension or the MCP server before you've set up version control.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing FileZilla and Light Cloud.

What makes your product unique?

Light Cloud's answer:

Your whole app is in one place:

  • the frontend
  • the backend
  • the database
  • the domain
  • the logs

One console, one bill. Nothing to connect, nothing to keep in sync.

And it's quick to set up. You connect a GitHub repo, we work out how to build it, and every push after that goes live on its own. No Dockerfile. No CI pipeline. No certificate to install.

Most tools do one part and leave you the rest. This does all of it.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Light Cloud's answer:

You need one tool instead of four, and it takes minutes instead of a week.

  • A frontend host puts your React or Next.js app online and then leaves the database to you. Now you have two accounts, two bills, and a connection string to move between them.
  • Raw cloud gives you everything and no help, so your week goes on Dockerfiles, load balancers, certificates and CI before anyone can see the app.
  • Older platforms bill you for a server even when nobody is using it.

Here it's one signup and one push. Frontend, backend, Postgres, domains with SSL, logs and deploy history, all set up together, all on one invoice. Apps stop billing when they go idle, so you can keep six projects alive for almost nothing.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Light Cloud's answer:

  • Developers shipping side projects and small products
  • Indie hackers who want something live today, not next week
  • Startups without an infrastructure hire
  • Small teams where hosting is someone's problem but not their job

What's the story behind your product?

Light Cloud's answer:

I spent over ten years building and running cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP and Azure, mostly for other people. The pattern never changed. Every project meant putting the same pieces together again, from different vendors. And everyone I worked with could write the app but couldn't get it online on their own.

None of that was ever about the app. It was containers, certificates, DNS and a database. The same setup work every time, and it still eats most of the first week on a new project.

So I built the version where it's all in one place and takes a few clicks. It's still just me writing the code.
