  • React-focused learning resource
useEffect.dev is a specialized resource dedicated to helping developers understand and master React's useEffect hook, one of the most commonly used but often misunderstood hooks in the React ecosystem.
  • Practical examples
The site provides practical, real-world examples of useEffect usage patterns, making it easier for developers to learn how to properly implement side effects in their React components.
  • Niche expertise
By focusing specifically on useEffect, the resource can go deep into edge cases, best practices, and common pitfalls that more general React tutorials might gloss over.
  • Accessible for beginners
The site is designed to be approachable for developers who are new to React hooks, providing clear explanations that help bridge the gap between class component lifecycle methods and the hooks paradigm.
  • Free online resource
As a web-based resource, it is freely accessible to anyone with an internet connection, lowering the barrier to learning about React's useEffect hook.

Possible disadvantages

  • Narrow scope
The site is extremely focused on a single React hook, which limits its usefulness as a comprehensive learning resource for React development as a whole.
  • Limited community and recognition
useEffect.dev is not a widely known or heavily trafficked resource compared to the official React documentation or popular platforms like freeCodeCamp or Egghead, which may mean less community support and fewer peer-reviewed contributions.
  • Potential for outdated content
As React evolves rapidly (e.g., the shift toward React Server Components and away from useEffect in some patterns), the content may become outdated if not regularly maintained and updated.
  • May not cover advanced patterns sufficiently
While useful for understanding useEffect basics, the resource may not fully cover more advanced state management patterns or alternatives like useQuery, useSWR, or other libraries that abstract away direct useEffect usage.
  • Lack of interactive features
Compared to platforms with interactive coding environments, sandboxes, or exercises, the site may offer a more passive learning experience that doesn't fully engage developers in hands-on practice.

Analysis

An editorial look at what each product does well and who it suits.

Fi-Plan.in
useEffect.dev

No analysis of Fi-Plan.in yet.

Overall verdict

  • useEffect.dev appears to be a niche educational resource focused on React's useEffect hook and related hooks concepts, useful for developers who want targeted explanations and examples rather than a full-scale course platform.

Why this product is good

  • Focuses specifically on a commonly confusing React concept, which can save time compared to searching broader documentation
  • Likely provides practical code examples that clarify real-world usage patterns
  • Can serve as a quick reference for debugging common useEffect pitfalls like dependency arrays and cleanup functions
  • Being narrowly scoped, it may be easier to digest than lengthy general React courses

Recommended for

  • Junior to mid-level React developers seeking clarity on useEffect specifically
  • Developers debugging issues related to effect dependencies or infinite render loops
  • Self-taught programmers who prefer concise, topic-specific resources over full courses
  • Teams looking for a quick reference link to share with newer developers on the team

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Fi-Plan.in and useEffect.dev.

What makes your product unique?

Fi-Plan.in's answer

Most tools tell you what already happened. Fi-Plan is a month-by-month financial simulator for Indian salaries — it projects income, taxes, EMIs, SIPs and net worth up to 50 years, so you can see when money gets tight and when financial independence arrives. The same engine powers a free API and MCP server, so AI assistants (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) run the exact same numbers.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Fi-Plan.in's answer

India-specific by design: income-tax regimes, HRA and deductions, real EMI amortization with prepayments, step-up SIPs and rupee-first reporting — modelled month by month, not year-end estimates. It answers forward-looking questions ("prepay or invest?", "when can I retire?", "what if my salary jumps 20%?") from one consistent engine. Free to start, encrypted at rest, no broker passwords.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Fi-Plan.in's answer

Indian salaried professionals (28–40, metro, roughly ₹12L–₹60L income) who plan seriously for FIRE/retirement, plus NRIs planning a return. Tech-comfortable users who like running real scenarios either in the app or through an AI assistant.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Fi-Plan.in's answer

Next.js (App Router) and TypeScript, React on the front end, MongoDB for storage, and a pure TypeScript calculation engine shared by the web app, the public REST API and the MCP server. Deployed on Vercel, encrypted at rest, with OAuth and MCP for AI-assistant access.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Fi-Plan.in's answer

  • No public customers yet -Fi-Plan is an early, free product open to individual users (personal FIRE/retirement planning).

What's the story behind your product?

Fi-Plan.in's answer

Fi-Plan started from personal experience, not a market study. After my family's business nearly collapsed, I rebuilt my finances around a layered foundation - save first (10% emergency, 40% savings, 50% investment), funding each layer before the next, then invest. It worked, but tracking it lived in spreadsheets. So my co-founder Utkarsh Pandey and I turned that system into a product: a way to quantify exactly how much money you'll have at any point and simulate income, expenses, loans, inflation and returns month by month. That became Fi-Plan.
