I use fbreader, it's probably in your disto's repository or you can get in from fbreader.org. Source: over 3 years ago
I've been using FBreader for years, and it can use the built in Android TTS. https://fbreader.org/. Source: almost 4 years ago

I use FBreader on android and PC. It's insanely customizable. I sometimes use it it double-page layout, 'though I haven't tried comics. Source: over 4 years ago

Spritz does pretty much just that - take the content on a page and shows a popup with just one word at a time. https://spritz.com/ I find my eyes to feel a bit strained after using this for a while though. Source: over 3 years ago
A way better version of this is https://spritz.com/ but the principle is the same. Source: over 3 years ago
I see you're providing several different ways to read. Have you considered adding something like https://spritz.com (there are many clones as well). I find it really helps with reading speed, but it's never something I remember to use. I think if it was integrated with a service people were already using it would be a nice value add and easier for people to work it into their workflow. Source: almost 4 years ago
I have a similar app as well called spritz. Source: about 4 years ago
