Overall verdict

  • FATMAP was a highly regarded 3D outdoor mapping platform praised for its detailed terrain visualization and adventure planning tools, though it has since been acquired by Strava and its standalone service discontinued.

Why this product is good

  • Offered stunning high-resolution 3D maps that made planning routes in mountainous terrain intuitive and visually clear
  • Included detailed information on slope angles, gradients, and terrain features useful for backcountry safety
  • Featured curated guidebook content and community-shared routes for skiing, hiking, and mountaineering
  • Allowed offline map access, which is valuable in remote areas without cell coverage
  • Integrated well with adventure sports enthusiasts' needs before being absorbed into Strava

  • Backcountry skiers and ski tourers planning descents and assessing avalanche terrain
  • Hikers and mountaineers navigating alpine and remote environments
  • Trail runners and cyclists seeking detailed elevation and terrain insights
  • Outdoor adventurers who value 3D visualization for route planning
  • Strava users looking for enhanced mapping features now integrated into the platform
