EZ File Drop creates branded upload forms that deliver files into your own cloud storage: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, or FTP/SFTP.

It exists because collecting files from people outside your organization is harder than it should be. Email attachments bounce on size limits. Shared folders expose everything in them to everyone with the link. Most file transfer tools make the person sending you files create an account before they can help you.

With EZ File Drop, people open your link, drop in their files, and they're done. No account, no app, no sign-in. It works from a phone as well as a laptop, and photos and video keep their full resolution.

Files are delivered into cloud storage you already use. EZ File Drop is not another place to keep files. It is a front door to the storage you already have, so you are never paying twice for the same files, and everything is where your team already works. Every form field you add can do double duty. Ask for a client name and a project, and EZ File Drop creates the matching folders and delivers each file into the right one. Turn on file renaming and Scan_039.pdf arrives as Northwind - Q3 Statement.pdf. The sorting and renaming you used to do by hand happen before you ever open the folder.

You are notified by email the moment a submission arrives, and every submission, with its form responses and files, is searchable from one inbox.

Your brand is what the uploader sees: your logo, your colors, your instructions, your success message. Share the form as a link, print it as a QR code, or embed it on your own website so people never leave your page.

Accounting firms use it to collect tax documents. Agencies use it for client onboarding and asset delivery. Law firms, schools, and nonprofits use it wherever files need to come in from people who will never have a login.

Every account starts with a 7-day trial of the Business plan. No credit card required.

EZ File Drop features and specs

  • No sign-in for uploaders
The people sending you files open your link, drop in their files, and they're done. No account, no app, no password to reset. Clients, students, vendors, and volunteers can all use it the first time without instructions.
  • Delivery to your own cloud storage
Every submission is delivered into Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, or FTP/SFTP. EZ File Drop is a pipeline, not a place files live, so you are never paying twice for storage and your files are already where your team works.
  • Branded upload forms
Your logo, your colors, your fonts, your instructions, your success message. Save a brand theme once and apply it to every new form. On Business and Premium there is no EZ File Drop branding at all.
  • Dynamic subfolders
Ask for a client name and a project on the form, and each file is delivered into a folder built from those answers. Folders that already exist are reused, so new submissions join the right place instead of starting a duplicate.
  • File renaming on upload
Rename incoming files from form responses, dates, custom text, or sequence numbers. Scan_039.pdf arrives as something your team can find.
  • Large uploads
Up to 25+ GB per submission, whether that is one video file or four hundred photos. Uploads from phones keep their full resolution. Higher limits are available on request.
  • Embed on your website
One snippet puts the form on your own site, so people upload from your page instead of being sent somewhere else. Works on WordPress, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, and any page that accepts HTML.
  • Share link and QR codes
Every form has a clean shareable URL with an editable slug and a built-in QR code for print and in-person use. QR scans are counted in your analytics.
  • Conditional logic and multi-page forms
Show or hide questions based on earlier answers and break long intakes into steps with a progress indicator, so each person only sees what applies to them.
  • Email notifications
You, your team, and any third party can be emailed the moment a submission arrives, with the form responses and links to the files. Templates carry your branding, or replace them with your own HTML.
  • Submissions inbox
Every submission in one place with its form responses and files. Sort, filter, search across your whole account, and export to CSV. Form data can also write to a Google Sheet.
  • Team accounts
Up to 20 users with no per-seat fees. Control who can see and edit each form, and give someone access to one client's submissions without letting them change the form.
  • Zapier and webhooks
A new submission triggers whatever comes next: a task in Asana, a row in Airtable, a message in Slack, or a call to any endpoint you control.
  • Security
TLS encryption in transit, OAuth2 sign-in to your cloud provider so your password never passes through us, encrypted temporary staging that is removed once delivery is confirmed, and two-factor authentication on your account.

startbase.dev features and specs

  • Faster project setup
Startbase.dev appears designed to help developers and founders quickly scaffold new projects with pre-built templates and boilerplate code, saving significant time compared to starting from scratch.
  • Focus on startups/MVPs
The platform seems tailored toward entrepreneurs and indie developers who want to launch minimum viable products quickly, which can be valuable for validating ideas without heavy upfront investment.
  • Modern tech stack
Such starter kits typically integrate current, popular frameworks and tools (e.g., Next.js, Tailwind, authentication, payments), reducing the need to research and configure these integrations manually.
  • Reduced boilerplate maintenance
By using a pre-built base, developers can avoid reinventing common features like user authentication, billing, and dashboards, letting them focus on unique business logic instead.
  • Potential cost savings
Compared to hiring a development team to build core infrastructure from scratch, using a starter template service can be more affordable for solo founders or small teams with limited budgets.

Possible disadvantages of startbase.dev

  • Limited customization flexibility
Pre-built starter kits and boilerplates often come with opinionated architecture and design choices that can be difficult or time-consuming to modify for highly specific or unconventional use cases.
  • Vendor/template lock-in risk
Relying on a specific boilerplate structure may create dependencies on certain libraries, patterns, or update cycles that could complicate long-term maintenance if the base template becomes outdated.
  • Learning curve for the specific stack
If the chosen tech stack differs from what a developer is familiar with, there may still be a learning curve to understand and effectively customize the starter codebase.
  • Uncertain long-term support
As a smaller or newer platform, there may be concerns about the longevity of updates, community support, and documentation compared to more established open-source alternatives.
  • Pricing transparency concerns
Depending on the pricing model, users may find costs less transparent or harder to justify compared to free, open-source boilerplates available elsewhere in the developer community.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing EZ File Drop and startbase.dev.

What makes your product unique?

EZ File Drop's answer

We are a pipeline, not a place files live. Most file-collection tools become the destination for your files, which means another account to manage, another bill for storage, and another place your team has to look. EZ File Drop delivers every submission into cloud storage you already use: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, or FTP/SFTP. We hold nothing long term.

Two other things set us apart. The person sending you files needs no account, no app, and no sign-in of any kind. And the form they see carries your brand, not ours, right down to the share link and the notification emails. Add automatic folder creation and file renaming from the form fields, and files arrive already organized instead of waiting for someone to sort them by hand.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

EZ File Drop's answer

It depends on what you are comparing us to.

The built-in request features in Dropbox, OneDrive, and Google Drive are free, but they show the provider's branding, collect almost no context about who sent what, and give you no way to embed the form on your own site or be notified when files arrive. Shared folders go further and expose everything in the folder to everyone with the link.

Transfer tools like WeTransfer are built for one person sending to another. They are not built for collecting from many people into a structure you control.

Client portals like SmartVault or Canopy give every client an account and a login. That works when clients want a shared workspace. It does not work when the person sending files is a one-time uploader who will never log in again.

EZ File Drop sits between those. You get a branded form, no sign-in for the uploader, files delivered into your own cloud storage, and folders and file names built from the answers on the form. If you need two-way document sharing or a full client portal, we are not the right tool. If you need files to come in cleanly from people outside your organization, we are.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

EZ File Drop's answer

Teams that receive files from people outside their organization. That includes video production companies and creative agencies collecting footage and brand assets from clients, print shops taking in artwork at intake, accounting firms gathering W-2s, 1099s, and bank statements, contractors and fabricators receiving site photos, drawings, and signed change orders from field teams and subcontractors, law firms collecting client documents organized by matter, nonprofits gathering waivers and grant paperwork from volunteers, and podcasters and YouTube creators managing submissions from guests and contributors.

What they have in common is that the people sending files are clients, students, vendors, or volunteers, not employees. They will not install an app or create an account, and the team receiving the files wants them to land in the right folder with the right name without anyone touching them.

What's the story behind your product?

EZ File Drop's answer

EZ File Drop started inside Gorilla Creative, a video production agency in the San Francisco Bay Area. In March 2020, as work went remote, the agency needed a reliable way to collect footage from clients, much of it shot on phones. Email attachments bounced. Shared folders meant giving clients access to things they should not see. The transfer tools available compressed videos, made senders jump through hoops, didn’t handle large files, and stored files in their own expensive storage that wasn’t user-friendly.

Co-founders Matt Townley and Eric Stracke built a branded upload form that delivered files into Google Drive, the cloud storage they already used, with nothing for the client to install. Other businesses asked to use it, and over time, the internal tool became EZ File Drop. It is now used by thousands of teams worldwide, and it is still designed, built, and supported by the same team.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

EZ File Drop's answer

EZ File Drop runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install for you or for the people sending you files.

Uploaded files travel over TLS-encrypted connections into a private, temporary staging area on Amazon S3, and are delivered from there to your connected cloud destination. Connections to Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Box use each provider's own OAuth2 sign-in, so your cloud password never passes through us. The staged copy is removed once delivery is confirmed. Webhooks and a Zapier integration let submission data flow into the rest of your tools.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

EZ File Drop's answer

EZ File Drop is used by thousands of teams worldwide, including government agencies, universities, Fortune 100 brands, non-profits, and community organizations, including Rooted Software, Viewrail, Viasonix, Blue Bear Creative, US Custom Creations, and Between The Lines Translations.
