SpeakBits was created in 2023 in response to corporate actions taken by sites like Reddit that have been ignoring user sentiment on the direction of the site and application. Users had become increasingly disgruntled by the state of the mobile application, the shutdown of the third party API, the quantity of advertisements placed on the site, and the general disregard of user comlainst about subreddit moderators abusing their powers. In July 2023, development began on SpeakBits to address all of these concerns with an official launch in September 2023.
