Duplicate Wizard's answer
Duplicate Wizard started as a personal need: finding duplicate files across a few hard drives. Finder offered no intuitive visual way to track them across folders and backups, and the dedicated duplicate finders on the market all had the same problem: a flat list of filenames. When duplicates are scattered across nested folders and old backups, it is hard to understand where files actually live, and deleting anything starts to feel like guessing. Pricing was another frustration. Most of those apps were sold as subscriptions, even though duplicate cleanup is rarely a regular activity. For most people it happens once or twice a year, when they reorganize a hard drive, free up space, or migrate to a new Mac. A monthly subscription felt wrong for a tool used that rarely. That frustration led to building a native macOS app where the folder structure stays visible while reviewing duplicates, not just as a path label next to each file, but as an interactive folder tree you can browse and expand. Every copy is shown in its real location before any decision is made. The pricing model followed the same principle: a one-time purchase, since that matches how the app is actually used. A configurable scoring engine was added later, suggesting which copy to keep based on name quality, modification date, and path depth, so groups can be resolved quickly without giving up control.
Duplicate Wizard's answer
Duplicate Wizard is a native macOS app built with Swift and SwiftUI. It uses Apple frameworks for file system access, Quick Look previews, and the macOS sandbox. Content matching is done with SHA256 hashing on strategic portions of each file. In-app purchases are handled through StoreKit and distributed via the Mac App Store.
Duplicate Wizard's answer
Three reasons stand out:
Folder context. Every copy is shown in its real location, not as an isolated entry in a list. You always know what you are about to delete.
Safety first. Marked files go through a review step and are moved to the Trash, never permanently deleted. Visual warnings appear if you are about to remove every copy of a file, and anything can be restored in one click during the session.
Honest pricing. One-time in-app purchase, no subscription, fully offline, no tracking, no account required.
Duplicate Wizard's answer
Mac users who want to free up disk space without taking risks.
Typical users include photographers cleaning up libraries after imports, people consolidating data from old drives or backups, and anyone whose Downloads folder has grown out of control.
The guided workflow is designed for non-technical users, while power users get configurable scoring, custom file extension filters, and bulk marking when they need them.
Duplicate Wizard's answer
Most duplicate finders give you a flat list of files and ask you to figure out which copy to delete.
Duplicate Wizard keeps the full folder structure visible the whole time, so you always know exactly where each copy lives before deciding what to remove.
A configurable scoring engine ranks copies by name, date, and path depth and recommends which one to keep, but you stay in control of every decision.
