Analysis

An editorial look at what each product does well and who it suits.

Dividend Stacker
Git X-Modules

Overall verdict

  • Dividend Stacker is a niche tool geared toward dividend growth investors who want to visualize and track compounding dividend income over time; it's a good fit for that specific purpose but not a full-featured brokerage or research platform.

Why this product is good

  • Focuses specifically on dividend growth investing, offering tools to project and visualize dividend income growth over time
  • Simple, easy-to-use interface for tracking dividend portfolios without unnecessary complexity
  • Helps investors stay motivated by showing compounding effects of reinvested dividends
  • Often free or low-cost compared to more comprehensive portfolio management platforms
  • Useful community or educational content around dividend investing strategies

Recommended for

  • Long-term dividend growth investors wanting to track and project income
  • Beginners interested in learning about dividend investing and compounding
  • Investors who want a simple visualization tool rather than a full brokerage platform
  • People looking for motivation and goal-tracking for passive income building
  • Those who already have a brokerage account and want a supplementary tracking tool

Overall verdict

  • Git X-Modules (gitmodules.com) is a specialized plugin/tool aimed at improving the experience of working with Git submodules, particularly within JetBrains IDEs. It's a solid niche solution if your workflow heavily relies on submodules and you find the default Git tooling for them clunky, but it's not a universal must-have for all developers since many teams avoid submodules altogether in favor of monorepos or package managers.

Why this product is good

  • Adds a more visual, integrated UI for managing Git submodules directly inside the IDE
  • Simplifies common but often error-prone submodule operations like init, update, and sync
  • Reduces the need to drop into the command line for routine submodule maintenance tasks
  • Can help teams that are already committed to a submodule-based repo structure work more efficiently
  • Actively focused on a specific pain point (submodule UX) rather than being a bloated general tool

Recommended for

  • Development teams that rely on Git submodules for managing multiple related repositories
  • JetBrains IDE users (IntelliJ, PyCharm, WebStorm, etc.) who want tighter Git submodule integration
  • Engineers who frequently run into merge conflicts or sync issues with submodules
  • Organizations maintaining modular codebases (e.g., shared libraries, plugin architectures) via submodules
  • Developers who prefer GUI-based Git workflows over command-line submodule management

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Dividend Stacker and Git X-Modules.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Dividend Stacker's answer

Most "dividend tools" are built for SCHD-style dividend growth investing, not funds that pay weekly and change their payout every single time.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Dividend Stacker's answer

High-yield ETF investors looking for information.

What makes your product unique?

Dividend Stacker's answer

Dividend Stacker is a free suite of tools for high-yield ETF investors. Calculate dividend income and total returns with DRIP, compare funds side by side, and track upcoming distributions from YieldMax, Roundhill, NEOS, Defiance, and REX Shares on a live dividend calendar. Get email alerts the moment a fund announces its next distribution, plus payout history, yield data, and change-vs-prior tracking for 150+ funds. Built from official sources — clear data, no hype, no financial advice.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Dividend Stacker's answer

Dividend Stacker is a free suite of tools for high-yield ETF investors.

What's the story behind your product?

Dividend Stacker's answer

I'm Josh, and I built Dividend Stacker because I couldn't find the tool I wanted.

I invest in high-yield ETFs — YieldMax, Roundhill, NEOS, the funds paying double-digit yields through options strategies. When I tried to research them, everything was scattered: distribution amounts on one site, ex-dates buried in press releases, total return calculators that ignored reverse splits or handled dividend reinvestment wrong. And most "dividend tools" are built for SCHD-style dividend growth investing, not funds that pay weekly and change their payout every single time.

So I built what I was missing, and it's all free:

📅 Dividend calendar — upcoming ex-dates and pay dates for 150+ high-yield funds, with officially announced distributions flagged separately from estimates

📬 Distribution alerts — pick your funds, get one email the moment a distribution is officially declared (amount, change vs prior, ex-date)

🧮 Calculators — dividend income projections, total return with DRIP, side-by-side fund comparisons — all shareable via URL

📊 Fund data — full distribution history, yields, 1-year total returns, all sourced from official fund providers

To be upfront: I'm not a financial advisor and the site gives zero investment advice. It's data and math, displayed the way I always wished someone would display it. My methodology is public on the site.

Would love your feedback — especially from anyone who holds these funds. What would make this more useful for you? What's missing?

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Dividend Stacker's answer

The stack is deliberately boring: Next.js on Vercel, one market-data API, and a front end.
