A lot of communities use [Discourse ](https://discourse.org). [LPSF](https://forum lpsf.org) migrated to it when Yahoo Groups was discontinued. Some plugins can't be installed or updated automatically or locally due to licensing reasons, like WPML, which also does not automatically get upgraded to the latest version.
