What makes your product unique?

CitApp's answer:

CitApp keeps track of your sources while you read, not just when you write the reference list. Every source, quote and page number is saved in one place and sorted by chapter, so the reference list builds itself instead of being rebuilt at the end. It is free, needs no account to try, and supports 135 citation styles.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

CitApp's answer:

MyBib and EasyBib create one citation at a time, and EasyBib's free plan covers only MLA. Zotero is built for researchers and needs a desktop app. General AI chat can invent references. CitApp builds every reference from the actual page, DOI or ISBN, organises the whole essay, and gives every style away for free.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

CitApp's answer:

Upper secondary and university students who have to reference sources but were never properly taught how, starting with Swedish students writing their gymnasiearbete. Teacher librarians are the second audience: they recommend tools to their students, and CitApp's free tier is built to be easy to recommend.

What's the story behind your product?

CitApp's answer:

I am a third year upper secondary student in Sweden and I built CitApp on my own. Since I was tired of going back and forth between sources while writing essays. I tested it with my own class, where twenty of thirty-one classmates created an account in the room, and I keep building it from what students and librarians tell me.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

CitApp's answer:

Next.js and TypeScript on Vercel, Supabase (PostgreSQL) for data and sign-in, Google Gemini through Vertex AI in the EU for reading pages, citeproc-js with the Citation Style Language for formatting, Stripe for payments, and Google Apps Script for the Docs add-on.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

CitApp's answer:

-Students in Sweden, starting with a pilot class at an upper secondary school
