Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing DermInk and Vim.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

DermInk's answer

DermInk does not currently publish a list of named customers. It is a self-service product used by people planning tattoos, tattoo collectors, independent artists, and tattoo studios.

What makes your product unique?

DermInk's answer

DermInk is built around the way tattoo ideas develop. Users can define the subject, meaning, style, placement, composition, linework, color, and negative space instead of relying on a general image prompt. The workflow offers four clear starting points: create from text, remix an existing design, convert a photo or sketch, or produce a stencil-style concept. Users can explore more than 20 tattoo styles, generate up to four directions at once, and refine a chosen result with reference images. DermInk also treats every result as a concept for artist collaboration. It helps users communicate an idea clearly while leaving anatomy, scale, technical execution, and final stencil preparation to a professional tattoo artist.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

DermInk's answer

DermInk is a strong choice for anyone who wants a focused tattoo design workflow rather than a general-purpose image generator. It combines text generation, reference-image editing, photo conversion, tattoo remixing, and stencil-style exploration in one place. Users can control the style, body placement, aspect ratio, resolution, and number of results. Finished concepts remain available in a private workspace for download or further refinement. New accounts receive 30 free credits with no credit card required. This is enough to create three standard 1K tattoo concepts before choosing a paid plan or credit pack.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

DermInk's answer

DermInk primarily serves people who are planning a tattoo and want to turn an idea into a clear visual reference before meeting an artist. This includes first-time clients, experienced tattoo collectors, and people exploring memorial pieces, custom symbols, portraits, sleeve concepts, cover-up directions, or placement ideas. Tattoo artists and studios can also use DermInk during early client conversations, composition studies, and style exploration. The final tattoo design still remains part of the artist’s professional process.

What's the story behind your product?

DermInk's answer

Most tattoo ideas begin in an awkward gap. The image may feel clear in someone’s head, but it can be difficult to explain with words or scattered reference pictures. DermInk exists to close that gap. It turns personal ideas, photos, and rough sketches into visual concepts that are easier to compare, refine, and discuss with a tattoo artist. The name brings together “derm,” meaning skin, and “ink.” It reflects the product’s purpose: helping an idea move closer to the body while respecting the artist’s role in shaping the final tattoo. DermInk’s guiding principle is simple: Your idea. Your ink.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

DermInk's answer

DermInk is built with a modern TypeScript web stack: - Next.js 15 and React 19 - TypeScript - Tailwind CSS and Radix UI - PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM - Better Auth with Google sign-in - GPT Image 2.5 image - S3-compatible and Cloudflare R2 object storage - Waffo Pancake for subscriptions and credit purchases - next-intl for English and Chinese localization - PostHog, Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, and Vercel Analytics DermInk is an independent product. The third-party models and services used by the platform do not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or an official partnership.

  • regular Vim has lua?!
Lua is quite small, encouraging distros to include it. The ubuntu gvim has, and the gvim AppImage linked from vim.org does. The default Makefile from github is set up to not include it, but you can uncomment one line there to get it. Source: over 3 years ago
