DBConvert Streams is a database IDE and data integration tool that combines querying, migration, and real-time sync in one workflow.

Instead of switching between multiple tools, it allows you to:

โ€“ query data using SQL (single or multiple sources) โ€“ move data between databases and files โ€“ keep systems in sync when needed (CDC)

The platform supports PostgreSQL, MySQL, and file-based data sources such as CSV, JSON, JSONL, and Parquet. You can run cross-database queries and join data across different systems in a single interface.

DBConvert Streams is designed for both one-time tasks and continuous workflows:

โ€“ database migration and data transfer โ€“ cross-database comparison and validation โ€“ exporting and importing data to/from files โ€“ continuous data replication between systems

It runs locally as a desktop app (Windows, macOS, Linux) or can be deployed with Docker on a server or VPS.

No complex setup required - everything works in one place.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing DBConvert Streams and Vim.

What makes your product unique?

DBConvert Streams's answer

DBConvert Streams combines a database IDE, data migration, and real-time sync in a single workflow.

You can query data, move it between databases or files, and keep it in sync - all in one place. It also supports cross-database SQL across PostgreSQL, MySQL, files, and S3-compatible storage.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

DBConvert Streams's answer

Most tools cover only one part of the workflow - querying, migration, or replication.

DBConvert Streams combines all three:

  • query data
  • move it between systems
  • keep it in sync when needed

This removes the need to switch between multiple tools or maintain custom scripts.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

DBConvert Streams's answer

Developers and data teams working with PostgreSQL, MySQL, and data pipelines.

Especially useful for:

  • database migrations
  • building internal data workflows
  • working with databases, files, and S3 in one environment

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

DBConvert Streams's answer

Built in Go with a distributed architecture.

Uses:

  • efficient data processing pipelines
  • NATS for messaging
  • DuckDB for cross-database SQL
  • S3-compatible storage integration
  • Docker for deployment

What's the story behind your product?

DBConvert Streams's answer

Working with data often means juggling multiple tools - one for queries, another for migration, and something else for syncing.

This leads to fragmented workflows and one-off scripts.

DBConvert Streams was built to bring everything into a single place where data can be explored, moved, and reused without switching tools.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

DBConvert Streams's answer

DBConvert Streams is used by developers and teams working with PostgreSQL and MySQL across cloud and on-prem environments.

Many users are migrating data between cloud providers or building internal data pipelines without relying on heavy infrastructure.

Itโ€™s tough to say which developers would enjoy Vim as a text editor. Itโ€™s an old system with an outdated interface. Yet, it still has the charm and powerful feature-set that the average developer needs. DBConvert Streams mentions (2)

  • Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (May 2026)
We are working on DBConvert Streams: https://streams.dbconvert.com A self-hosted database IDE with built-in migration, CDC, and DuckDB-powered federated SQL. Mostly trying to remove the annoying gap between "I can inspect this database" and "I can safely move/sync this data somewhere else". Current focus: resumable large loads and cleaner initial-load-to-CDC handoff for Postgres/MySQL. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
Working on database tooling around data movement + CDC. Trying to collapse what is usually: SQL IDE -> export/scripts -> pipeline -> CDC -> back to SQL into a single workflow instead of stitching 3โ€“4 tools together. Runs locally or via Docker, no Kafka / heavy setup. https://streams.dbconvert.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago

Vim mentions (10)

  • regular Vim has lua?!
Lua is quite small, encouraging distros to include it. The ubuntu gvim has, and the gvim AppImage linked from vim.org does. The default Makefile from github is set up to not include it, but you can uncomment one line there to get it. Source: over 3 years ago
  • is there a way to make highlighted text persistent after quit when using something like [match Search /\%'.line('.').'l/] ?
I've not used vimwiki locally (tho I'm old enough to remember the Vim wiki on vim.org :), but I think what you are wanting to do is extend vimwiki's syntax file. I presume it installs one at $VIMRUNTIM/syntax or or ~/.vim/syntax. If this sounds right, then create a ~/.vim/after/syntax/vimwiki.vim file and place your match command in there. Then everytime you open a vimwiki file it should apply your... Source: over 3 years ago

Vim.org has 242k total visitors, tailwindcss.com has 4.4m, planetscale.com has 412k, jpl.nasa.gov has 2.6m, all built with Tailwind, all several years younger than Vim's website. Unnecessary comparison, unnecessary defence. It's a valuable tool, fine, but a complete disregard for anyone who doesn't love a crappy website and would like to navigate a website like a normal human is not something to be defended. Maybe... • What is YOUR process of writing ?
I write in Vim with some customizations in my vimrc to gear it more towards prose writing than code editing. It's not pretty, but Normal Mode and Ex commands are the most powerful text editing tools out there, so that means I spend less time on making corrections and other edits. Source: over 4 years ago
