Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing CoverEdge and Opalstack.

What makes your product unique?

CoverEdge's answer

CoverEdge is built around a ledger-first accounting model — every premium, close, roll, and assignment is an immutable journal entry, so your income and P&L are always audit-grade rather than estimated. On top of that foundation it adds:

  • Opportunity Screener across 230+ tickers, ranked by yield and probability
  • AI-enhanced research that turns dense options technicals into plain English
  • Assignment-aware roll analysis with side-by-side scenarios

It's the full covered-call, cash-secured-put, and wheel workflow in one place — and it's engineered security-first by a founder with 20+ years in cybersecurity (CISSP, CEH, CHFI), built and operated in the USA.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

CoverEdge's answer

Most options sellers stitch together spreadsheets, broker screens, and a separate screener. CoverEdge replaces all of that with one workspace:

  • Screen & research opportunities across 230+ tickers
  • Plan assignment-aware rolls with side-by-side scenarios
  • Sync automatically from 20+ US & Canadian brokerages via SnapTrade
  • Track premium income with ledger-grade precision

The free tier covers full trade tracking with no credit card, and Pro ($19.99/mo) adds research, AI analysis, and analytics with a 14-day trial. CoverEdge is a decision-support tool — not an adviser telling you what to buy.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

CoverEdge's answer

Self-directed retail investors who sell options for income — covered calls, cash-secured puts, and the wheel strategy.

They range from intermediate options sellers to experienced income-focused investors managing their own brokerage or retirement accounts, who want better research, roll planning, and income accounting than a spreadsheet can provide.

What's the story behind your product?

CoverEdge's answer

CoverEdge started in 2025 as one person's spreadsheet. Founder Philip Picciotti — a U.S. Navy veteran and 20-year cybersecurity leader (CISSP, CEH, CHFI) — learned to sell options from a retired broker and was running covered calls and cash-secured puts on his own account.

Every week he'd update a sprawling spreadsheet of positions, premium, fees, and rolls just to answer one question: what does this stock actually cost me, net, after everything I've sold against it? He was spending more time maintaining the spreadsheet than finding good trades.

So he built the tool he wished existed — one where every premium, close, roll, and assignment is an immutable ledger entry, and every figure is derived from that ledger. Built for an audience of one, it grew into a platform for every retail options seller who'd rather run their strategy than babysit a spreadsheet.

Today CoverEdge is led by CEO Kristina Picciotti, who brings 20+ years of building, scaling, and exiting businesses — and it's built and operated in the USA.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

CoverEdge's answer

  • Frontend: Next.js (App Router) + TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui
  • Backend & data: Supabase (PostgreSQL with row-level security) for data and auth
  • Market data: Tradier and Finnhub
  • Brokerage connectivity: SnapTrade
  • AI analysis: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models
  • Billing: Stripe · Email: Resend · Hosting: Vercel
