How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

ConvertOnline's answer

Two groups, with little overlap. The first is anyone who has one file in the wrong format right now — a HEIC photo from an iPhone, a scan that needs to be searchable, a video that will not play — and wants it solved without installing anything or signing up.

The second is developers and teams who need conversion to happen without a person: a backend job, a CI pipeline, a SaaS feature, or an AI assistant that should be able to convert a file as part of what it does.

What makes your product unique?

ConvertOnline's answer

Most online converters are a web form and nothing else. Convert.Online is the same converter with two more ways in: a documented REST API with an OpenAPI 3.1 specification, and an MCP server, which lets an AI assistant convert a file during a conversation. Very few converters have either, and almost none have both. The web app itself needs no account at all — you can convert a file within seconds of arriving.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

ConvertOnline's answer

For a one-off conversion, because nothing is asked of you first: no account, no email, no card. For anything repeated, because the same engine is available as an API and as an MCP server, so the conversion can move into a script, a pipeline, or an assistant instead of staying a manual task.

And because we would rather refuse a conversion than take the click. Files that cannot be converted — a DRM-protected audiobook, a codec no decoder exists for — are turned away with the reason, before the upload, rather than failing after it.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

ConvertOnline's answer

PHP and MySQL for the application, Redis for the job queue, and nginx in front. The conversions themselves are done by the established open-source tools for each family — ffmpeg for audio and video, ImageMagick for images, LibreOffice for documents and spreadsheets, Ghostscript for PDF, Tesseract and OCRmyPDF for OCR, Calibre for ebooks, vtracer for raster-to-vector, and pandoc for markup. Conversion workers run on separate machines from the web tier, on Google Cloud, with Cloudflare in front of everything.
