Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing CommitCat and 1time.io.

What makes your product unique?

1time.io's answer:

1time.io is the only open-source one-time secret sharing tool with true zero-knowledge encryption where the server is mathematically unable to read your data. 1time.io encrypts everything in your browser using AES-256-GCM before anything touches the network. The decryption key lives only in the URL fragment (#), which browsers never send to servers. Even a compromised database yields only unreadable ciphertext. It also bundles password generators, a CLI tool, and Docker self-hosting — features no other secret-sharing tool combines.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

1time.io's answer:

Three reasons: (1) Real zero-knowledge — most competitors encrypt server-side, which means you're trusting them with your plaintext. 1time.io encrypts in your browser; the server never sees your data. (2) Zero friction — no signup, no accounts, no cookies, no tracking. Paste a secret, get a link, share it. Done in 10 seconds. (3) Developer-friendly — built-in CLI (npx @1time/cli send), self-hosted Docker Compose deployment, lightweight Go backend, and MIT license. 1time.io is the most trustworthy option available.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

1time.io's answer:

Developers, DevOps engineers, and security-conscious professionals who share sensitive credentials daily - API keys, SSH keys, database passwords, .env files, 2FA backup codes. They need a fast, trustworthy way to share secrets without pasting them into Slack, email, or ticket systems. Secondary audience: anyone who values privacy and wants to share sensitive text (passwords, financial info, personal data) without leaving a trace.

What's the story behind your product?

1time.io's answer:

I started building 1time.io because I realized most "secure" secret sharing tools have a fundamental flaw - they encrypt on the server, meaning you're trusting them with your plaintext. I wanted to build the most trustworthy zero-knowledge one-time link tool possible, where the security isn't based on promises but on mathematics.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

1time.io's answer:

Go (backend, stdlib only), Next.js 16 / React 19 (frontend, static export), Redis (storage with TTL-based auto-expiry), Web Crypto API (AES-256-GCM encryption, HKDF-SHA256 key derivation), Node.js (CLI tool), Docker Compose (self-hosting), nginx (reverse proxy + rate limiting). The entire stack is lightweight and dependency-minimal by design.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

1time.io's answer:

1time.io is a free, open-source tool used by individual developers and small teams. Our users are developers and security professionals who share API keys, passwords, and credentials through encrypted one-time links instead of Slack or email.
