Personally, I like codingame.com (completely free unless you are an employer) - Their simple puzzles are great places to get an idea of how programming works and the kinds of problems they solve. I think the first puzzle I was able to solve as a beginner in a few days. Source: about 1 year ago

There is also Unity Learn's Create with Code that also has a teacher trainingthat goes with it. BitsBox is also great, my kids started out with it, and then moved onto Create With Code. Source: over 1 year ago
Maybe try Bitsbox? It teaches Javascript by making games. They can share the games with their friends, and it also leaves a lot of room for them to modify the games using what they learned. It teaches a lot of programming skills that are useful later. There is also Google's CS First, that's free and has a lot of different projects.
