BIMSmarter Document Generator produces BIM document numbers that comply with ISO 19650 and with the Luxembourg CRTI-B GID reference framework. It runs in the browser, with no installation.

How it works

Describe your project and its naming convention: project code, originator, zone, level, document type, discipline, phase, revision and status. The convention can be customised field by field, or imported from an existing BEP. An existing document register can be loaded from Excel or CSV.

What you get

  • ISO 19650 compliant document numbers, syntax-validated in real time
  • A document register you can filter by discipline and by status
  • A MIDP delivery plan with milestones and due dates
  • Deliverables pre-filled from the CRTI-B GID sheets
  • A full ISO 19650 BIM Execution Plan, exported to Word
  • Exports to CSV, Excel, JSON and PDF
  • An AI assistant answering questions on ISO 19650 and the GID framework

Who it is for

BIM managers, BIM coordinators and document controllers in design offices, architecture firms and contractors who have to codify hundreds of documents per project and cannot afford naming errors in a Common Data Environment.

Pricing

Free forever with an account, no credit card: full access to the tool, 20 AI requests per day and 250 per month, up to 5 projects, PDF exports. An organisation licence, quoted on request, raises the AI quotas, unlocks professional deliverable exports and covers a whole team.

  • Clean and Simple Interface
Codictionary features a straightforward and easy-to-navigate user interface, allowing users to quickly search for and find the coding terms and definitions they need without unnecessary complexity.

Possible disadvantages of Codictionary

  • Limited Content Depth
As a relatively niche platform, Codictionary may not have the breadth or depth of content found on more established resources like Stack Overflow, MDN, or official documentation sites.
  • Small Community
The platform has a smaller user base compared to major developer communities, which means fewer contributions, slower updates, and potentially less peer review of content accuracy.
  • Limited Advanced Topics
The platform may focus more on basic definitions and terminology, potentially lacking in-depth coverage of advanced programming concepts, design patterns, or complex technical topics.
  • Potential for Outdated Information
With a smaller community maintaining content, some entries may become outdated as programming languages and technologies evolve, without timely updates to reflect current best practices.
  • Less Recognized Platform
Being a lesser-known tool in the developer ecosystem, Codictionary may not be widely recognized or trusted as an authoritative source compared to well-established documentation and reference sites.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Codictionary and BIMSmarter Document Generator.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

BIMSmarter Document Generator's answer:

  • React 18 for the interface, Tailwind CSS for styling
  • Firebase Authentication and Firestore for accounts and saved projects, with App Check
  • A retrieval-augmented AI assistant grounded on a curated corpus of normative documents
  • ISO 19650, the Belgian and Luxembourg National Annex, and the CRTI-B GID framework as the underlying data model
  • Exports built on open formats: CSV, Excel, JSON, PDF, Word
  • Hosted in the European Union

What's the story behind your product?

BIMSmarter Document Generator's answer:

BIMSmarter was founded by Renaud Climent, a working BIM coordinator in Luxembourg. On every project, the same scene repeated itself: a spreadsheet of document numbers maintained by hand, a column misplaced, a volume code in the wrong position, and a delivery rejected for a naming error that had nothing to do with the quality of the design work.

The Document Generator was built to make that class of error impossible, then extended upstream to the naming convention and downstream to the BEP and the MIDP. It is one of four free BIMSmarter tools, alongside a workflow and RACI generator, an assistant for the CRTI-B GID requirements, and a browser-based IFC viewer and auditor.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

BIMSmarter Document Generator's answer:

BIM managers, BIM coordinators and document controllers in architecture firms, engineering design offices and contractors in Luxembourg, Belgium and the wider Benelux, working on ISO 19650 projects and, for public Luxembourg projects, on the CRTI-B GID framework. Also relevant to project managers and clients who have to write or check a BEP without owning a BIM authoring licence.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

BIMSmarter Document Generator's answer:

Aconex, Asite, BIM 360 and Trimble Connect are Common Data Environments: powerful, licensed, and they assume your naming convention is already defined and enforced elsewhere. The upstream work, deciding the convention, generating conformant codes, drafting the BEP, is usually done in a fragile Excel file passed around by email.

BIMSmarter Document Generator replaces that Excel file. It is free, browser-based, requires no procurement and no IT rollout, and it can be shared with every subcontractor on a project so everybody codifies the same way. It complements a CDE rather than competing with it.

What makes your product unique?

BIMSmarter Document Generator's answer:

It goes from naming convention to finished BEP in a single tool. Most naming helpers stop at generating a string. This one keeps the register, plans the deliveries through a MIDP, and writes the ISO 19650 BIM Execution Plan out of the same parameters, so the document codes and the plan that governs them can never drift apart. It is also one of the very few tools that natively knows the Luxembourg CRTI-B GID framework and the Belgian and Luxembourg National Annex, instead of offering a generic ISO 19650 template.
