Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Codewars and Accountely.

What makes your product unique?

Accountely's answer:

Accountely turns accounting practice into an active, scored exercise instead of passive reading. Every challenge โ€” Journal Entries, Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Cash Flow, Trial Balance โ€” is graded line-by-line by an engine that understands IAS/IFRS and US GAAP, including synonym recognition (e.g. "Sales Revenue" and "Net Sales" both score correct). It's structured like a LeetCode for accounting: solve, get instant feedback, see exactly where you went wrong, try again.

What's the story behind your product?

Accountely's answer:

Accountely started from a simple observation: programmers have LeetCode to practice real problems with instant feedback, but accounting students only have textbooks, videos, and static MCQs โ€” no equivalent "practice loop." Accountely was built to fix that: real financial statement problems, real structured worksheets, and instant, standards-aware scoring, so students can practice accounting the way developers practice code. The name itself reflects the mission โ€” Account(ing) + (easi)ly, "master accounting easily."

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Accountely's answer:

Most accounting learning tools (AccountingCoach, My Accounting Course) are read-only tutorials with no interactive practice loop. CPA-prep tools (Becker, Wiley, UWorld) are exam-focused, expensive, and built for certification crammers, not everyday skill-building. Accountely sits in between: real, hands-on practice with instant, standards-compliant feedback โ€” free to start, and built for students who want to actually get good at accounting, not just memorize for a test.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Accountely's answer:

Accounting and finance students (undergraduate and professional-track โ€” ACCA, CPA, CMA candidates), self-learners building practical skills, and educators/institutions who want to assign graded practice work to their classes.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Accountely's answer:

Nuxt / Vue 3 (Composition API) with Pinia for state management and Tailwind CSS on the frontend; Node.js/Express backend with a MySQL 8 database; JWT-based authentication; Paddle for subscription billing. Deployed on a self-managed VPS with PM2 and Nginx.

  • Of recursion and backtracking
Recently, I was working on a coding kata on codewars.com. Early on, I started thinking that a potential solution might utilize recursion, a concept that involves a function calling itself. However, I quickly realized that my grasp of recursion was not as solid as it needed to be for this task. In this post, I will share the insights gained from deepening my understanding of recursion while working through the kata. - Source: dev.to / over 2 years ago
  • 4th year, about to fail an entire semester's worth of classes.
Get more involved. Look into internships and junior SWE positions to get a sample of what you'd be applying for once you graduate. Solve coding challenges, start working on a portfolio of your personal works. I recommend codewars.com for coding challenges, it's fun. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Beginner with C++ looking for direction
I'd recommend to play around with some basic coding challenges on leetcode.com or codewars.com. If the course prepared you well you won't find this useful, but playing around with them will make sure that you are comfortable with basics such as loops, if statements etc. Source: about 3 years ago
  • Can you guys recommend an efficient way to learn in advance IT para sa mga walang alam?
