Most online rulers assume a fixed screen resolution (usually 96 DPI), which makes their measurements inaccurate on modern phones, laptops, and high-res monitors. Nexmetra Ruler instead tries to auto-detect your actual device's screen and calibrate to it, so the ruler shows true physical size instead of a generic guess. It also goes beyond a static ruler with point marking (measure exact distances between two spots) and measurement history (so you don't lose past measurements on refresh) — features most basic online rulers don't offer at all.

It's built to be simple and accurate enough for quick, one-off measurements without requiring any signup or download, so it works equally well for a casual one-time user and someone who comes back to it regularly.

What's the story behind your product?

Nexmetra Ruler's answer:

I needed to measure something small one day and reached for one of the many "online ruler" tools out there, only to find it was noticeably off — turns out most of them just assume a fixed screen DPI instead of accounting for the actual device you're using, so the measurements are wrong the moment your screen doesn't match their assumption. That gap seemed worth solving properly, so I built Nexmetra Ruler to detect your actual screen and calibrate to it, with manual calibration as a fallback for cases it can't confidently detect. Along the way I added point marking and measurement history, since once I was measuring things regularly, I wanted a way to track and compare past measurements too. It's a solo side project, built and refined based on real testing across different devices.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Nexmetra Ruler is built with Astro and TypeScript, using React for interactive components like the ruler and point-marking interface. Styling is done with Tailwind CSS v4. The screen calibration logic runs entirely client-side in the browser, using device detection signals to determine screen density without needing a backend for the core measuring functionality.
