Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing CodeBlinks and ExifVoid.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

ExifVoid's answer:

Most metadata removal tools upload your files to remote servers โ€” you're handing your private data to a third party in order to remove it. ExifVoid processes everything locally in your browser using JavaScript. No uploads, no server storage, no accounts. It also goes beyond simple removal by showing you a full privacy scan with threat categories, risk scoring, and a GPS map of your photo's location. No other free tool offers that level of visibility before cleaning.

What makes your product unique?

ExifVoid's answer:

ExifVoid is the only photo metadata tool that combines a visual privacy risk scanner with 100% client-side processing. It doesn't just remove EXIF data โ€” it shows you exactly what's hidden in your photos, scores the privacy risk, and displays GPS coordinates on an interactive map, all before you clean. Your files never leave your browser. Most competitors upload your photos to their servers for processing, which defeats the purpose of a privacy tool

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

ExifVoid's answer:

Anyone who shares photos online and cares about privacy. This includes eBay and marketplace sellers whose product photos may expose their home address, online daters who want to protect their location, journalists and activists who need to strip metadata to protect sources, photographers managing what data they share publicly, and businesses handling customer photos under GDPR. If you share photos with strangers, ExifVoid is for you.

What's the story behind your product?

ExifVoid's answer:

I discovered that every photo I'd ever listed on eBay contained my exact home GPS coordinates โ€” accurate to a few metres. When I looked for a tool to fix this, every option either uploaded my files to a server or was a complex command-line tool. I wanted something simple: drop in a photo, see what's hidden, remove it, done. And it had to work entirely in the browser so my files never left my device. That's ExifVoid.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

ExifVoid's answer:

Next.js 14 with static export for the framework, Tailwind CSS for styling, the exifr library for reading EXIF/XMP/IPTC metadata, Leaflet with OpenStreetMap for displaying GPS coordinates on a map, and canvas re-encoding for metadata stripping. Hosted on Vercel with automatic deployments from GitHub. The entire tool runs client-side โ€” there is no backend server.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

ExifVoid's answer:

ExifVoid is a free tool for individual users, not an enterprise product. You can skip this one or write:

Privacy-conscious individuals sharing photos online eBay and marketplace sellers protecting their home address Photographers managing metadata before publishing Small businesses handling customer photos under GDPR
