Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing CloudShell and Pluck Recipes.

What makes your product unique?

Pluck Recipes's answer:

Pluck is the only recipe app that extracts recipes from video. Most recipe managers clip text from food blogs - Pluck goes further:

  • Watches cooking videos on TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube, and Facebook
  • Analyzes audio, on-screen text, and visuals to produce a complete recipe
  • Strips food blog clutter down to just ingredients and steps
  • Scans photos of cookbook pages and handwritten recipe cards

One app that handles every recipe source - not just text.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Pluck Recipes's answer:

Most recipe apps (Paprika, Mela, Pestle) only work with text-based food blogs. But that's not where people find recipes anymore:

  • TikTok and Instagram - short-form video with no written recipe to clip
  • YouTube - long tutorials where the recipe is spoken, not typed
  • Food blogs - 2000 words of life stories before the ingredients

Pluck handles all of it. Plus:

  • A free web tool at Plucks website anyone can try without downloading
  • AI cooking assistant that answers questions while you cook
  • Offline access to all saved recipes

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Pluck Recipes's answer:

Home cooks who discover recipes on social media and food blogs. Specifically:

  • People who save TikTok cooking videos but never find them again
  • People who screenshot Instagram recipes that get buried in their camera roll
  • People who scroll past five minutes of life stories on food blogs to reach the ingredients
  • Anyone who wants their recipes organized in one place, ready to cook

What's the story behind your product?

Pluck Recipes's answer:

We built Pluck because saving recipes from social media is broken.

You find an amazing pasta recipe on TikTok, but there's no written recipe - just a 60-second video. Screenshot it? You'll never find it. Bookmark it? Lost in a sea of other bookmarks.

We wanted one app that handles any recipe source - video, blogs, photos - and turns it into something you can actually cook from.

The hardest part was video extraction:

  • Combining audio transcription (what they say)
  • On-screen text recognition (what they show)
  • Visual analysis (what they do)

...to piece together a complete recipe from a fast-paced cooking video.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Pluck Recipes's answer:

  • Mobile app - React Native with Expo
  • Backend - Supabase (auth, database, edge functions)
  • AI extraction - Claude AI for recipe parsing, with backup from GPT-5 and Gemini!
  • Video processing - OpenAI Whisper for audio transcription
  • Website - Astro, hosted on Netlify
