Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Cloudinary and Zvid.

What makes your product unique?

Zvid's answer:

Zvid is a video (and image) generation API that turns structured JSON into finished, broadcast-quality media — no fragile headless-browser hacks and no enterprise price tag. What sets it apart is that the same JSON document round-trips through a full drag-and-drop timeline editor: designers polish a video visually, developers automate the exact same document via the API. Templates go beyond merge fields with native variables, loops, and conditionals, so data-driven videos ("top 10 products", personalized outreach) are described once and driven by data. It renders deterministically with FFmpeg — the same JSON always produces the same frames — and ships an example-first library of 1,000+ designed, animated templates so output looks designed, not assembled. It's also natively agent-ready: an MCP server, Claude plugin, n8n/Make nodes, and Python/TypeScript SDKs let AI agents author, validate, and render video directly.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Zvid's answer:

Price — $0.015 per minute of output, billed per second (not rounded up per minute), with no overage penalties — roughly 20× cheaper than Shotstack's pay-as-you-go rate. A real free plan — 1,200 credits, Full HD, no watermark (not a watermarked sandbox). Editor ↔ API round-trip — a full timeline editor that reads and writes the exact JSON the render API consumes, so non-developers can build and tweak visually while developers automate. Smarter templates — loops and conditionals live in the template, not in your application code, plus 1,000+ ready-made templates and presets. Built for the 2026 automation stack — MCP server, Claude plugin, n8n, Make, LangChain, SDKs, bulk rendering, HMAC-signed webhooks, and live WebSocket render progress. Video and stills from one schema — PNG/JPG/WebP image rendering from the same templates on every plan.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Zvid's answer:

Zvid is built for teams that need to create video at scale programmatically: developers and SaaS product teams generating personalized or data-driven video (onboarding, reports, listings, ad variations), marketing and creative agencies producing high-volume social content, and no-code/automation builders wiring video into n8n, Make, and similar workflows. A fast-growing segment is AI-agent builders who want a video tool their LLM can call directly through MCP or an SDK. Because the same JSON powers a visual editor, it also fits mixed teams where designers craft the look and developers drive the volume.

What's the story behind your product?

Zvid's answer:

Zvid started from a simple frustration: generating video programmatically meant choosing between brittle headless-browser screenshot pipelines that broke under load, or enterprise-priced APIs that billed by the rounded-up minute and locked non-developers out. We wanted one system where a video is just data — a JSON document you can validate, version, diff, and test like any other software — that renders deterministically with FFmpeg and still looks professionally designed. So we paired a JSON-first render API with a full visual editor that speaks the same format, a library of designed templates, and first-class AI/automation tooling, at a price that makes rendering thousands of videos a month realistic rather than a budget line to fight for.
