Most online PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it there, and promise to delete it afterwards. Utilade does the work inside your browser instead, so the file never leaves your machine at all โ which matters when the document is a contract, a medical record or a client file.
There are many tools almost every pdf tool. The everyday ones: merge, split, compress to a target size, rotate, crop, reorder pages, and convert to and from JPG and PNG. And the ones that are usually behind a subscription: OCR with automatic language detection, redaction that genuinely removes the text rather than drawing a black box over it, Bates numbering for legal document productions, headers and footers with automatic fields, digital signatures, form filling and a page editor.
It is free with no account, no watermark, no page limit and no daily cap. It stays free because running in your browser costs nothing per file.
CloudConvert
UtiladeCloudConvert is recommended for users who regularly need to convert files between different formats, whether for personal, educational, or professional purposes, and prefer an online solution that doesn't require software installation.

Utilade's answer:
Most online PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it there, and promise to delete it afterwards. Utilade does the work inside your browser instead, so the file never leaves your machine at all. That one decision changes everything downstream: because nothing is processed on a server, there is no cost per file, and therefore no paywall, no watermark, no page cap and no daily quota. It also covers work that is usually behind a subscription โ OCR with automatic language detection, redaction that removes the underlying text rather than covering it, and Bates numbering that runs continuously across multiple files.
Utilade's answer:
Three reasons. Your documents never leave your device, which matters when the file is a contract, a medical record or a client file. It is genuinely free โ no account, no watermark, no page limit and no daily quota โ because browser-side processing costs nothing per file, so there is nothing to recover from you. And the professional tools are included rather than gated: Bates numbering with custom prefix, suffix and digit width running continuously across files; edaction that deletes the text from the document instead of drawing a black box over it; and compression to a target file size rather than a vague quality slider.
Utilade's answer:
Next.js and React with TypeScript, exported as a fully static site. All PDF work happens in the browser: pdf-lib for writing and editing documents, pdf.js for reading and rendering, Tesseract for OCR, and the Canvas API for rasterising pages. Styling is Tailwind CSS. There is no application server and no database, because no file is ever sent anywhere โ the site is served as static files from a CDN.
Utilade's answer:
Anyone who handles documents they would rather not upload to a stranger's server. In practice: lawyers and paralegals preparing document productions, accountants and bookkeepers, healthcare and HR staff handling personal records, students and teachers, and small businesses without a PDF licence. Also developers and privacy-minded users who simply prefer that a file stay on their own machine.
Utilade's answer:
It started with a small irritation: needing to merge two pages of a signed contract, and realising the quickest way meant uploading it to a stranger's server. The browser can already do that work โ the PDF libraries run perfectly well client-side โ so the upload was never technically necessary, only easier for whoever built the site. Utilade is the version with that step removed. It began as a handful of tools and grew to 34.
Utilade's answer:
We have no customers to name, and this is exactly the field where a listing invents a plausible-sounding company and gets pulled for it. An empty field costs nothing; a fabricated one costs the listing.
