Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Clearminutes.app and Vim Python IDE.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Clearminutes.app's answer

  • No bots in your meetings - Clearminutes records locally from your device. No meeting bot joins your call, no third party intercepts your audio, no one on the call even needs to know you're recording.
  • Zero cloud dependency - Otter, Fireflies, and Granola all send your audio to their servers. Clearminutes processes everything on-device. If the internet drops mid-meeting, it keeps working.
  • No subscription required for core features - Free tier includes full transcription, summaries, and meeting history with no time limits. Pro adds speaker identification, PDF export, and TickTick integration.
  • One-time lifetime option - No recurring billing, no vendor lock-in on your data.
  • Your data stays yours - All meetings stored in local SQLite. No cloud dashboard. No training on your conversations. You can verify this because the code architecture makes it impossible to phone home audio data.

What makes your product unique?

Clearminutes.app's answer

Clearminutes is the only polished, cross-platform, GPU-accelerated meeting assistant where your audio is architecturally incapable of leaving your machine. Transcription, summaries, and action items all run locally by default - not as a privacy policy you have to trust, but as a design constraint that can't be bypassed.

  • Local by design, not by policy - Whisper runs on your hardware (Metal/CUDA/Vulkan). No audio is ever transmitted to any server.
  • Built-in AI model - Ships with Gemma for summaries, no API keys or accounts required. Optionally connect your own cloud provider (Claude, OpenAI, Groq, OpenRouter) if you want.
  • GPU-accelerated transcription - Metal on macOS, CUDA on NVIDIA, Vulkan on AMD/Intel. Not a cloud API bottleneck.
  • Cross-platform desktop app - Native macOS, Windows, and Linux support via Tauri + Rust, not an Electron wrapper.
  • Professional audio mixing - RMS-based ducking and VAD filtering produce clean recordings and accurate transcripts, even with system audio.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Clearminutes.app's answer

Privacy-conscious professionals who attend regular meetings and need reliable transcription and summaries without surrendering their audio to a third-party cloud:

  • Consultants and freelancers handling sensitive client conversations who can't risk audio leaks
  • Healthcare and legal professionals bound by HIPAA, GDPR, or similar data protection requirements
  • Remote and hybrid workers tired of meeting bots cluttering their calls and making participants uncomfortable
  • Security-minded teams at organisations where recording tools that send audio externally are prohibited by policy
  • Individual contributors who want a polished, fast tool that just works locally without accounts or subscriptions

What's the story behind your product?

Clearminutes.app's answer

Clearminutes started from a simple frustration: every meeting transcription tool required uploading your audio to someone else's server. That's a hard pass for consultants under NDA, healthcare workers under HIPAA, and anyone who's read a privacy policy that says "we may use your data to improve our models."

The founder built the first version as a personal tool - a way to get meeting summaries without trusting a cloud service with sensitive conversations. It turned out a lot of people shared the same frustration. Not just privacy advocates, but anyone who'd had a meeting bot appear uninvited in their call.

The architecture followed from the principle: if the app literally cannot send audio anywhere, you don't need to trust anyone. Whisper runs locally on your GPU. Summaries run locally by default.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Clearminutes.app's answer

  • Tauri 2 - Lightweight desktop framework (Rust core, not Electron)
  • Rust - Audio capture, mixing, Whisper transcription, and all native processing
  • Next.js 15 + React 18 - Frontend UI (TypeScript)
  • Whisper.cpp - Local GPU-accelerated speech-to-text (Metal/CUDA/Vulkan)
  • Gemma (via llama.cpp) - Built-in LLM for local summarisation
  • SQLite - Local-first data storage, no cloud database
  • Cloudflare Workers - Pro subscription billing and webhook handling only
  • Paddle - Payment processing for Pro and Lifetime plans

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Clearminutes.app's answer

  • Individual consultants and freelancers across Europe and North America
  • Small law firms handling privileged client communications
  • Healthcare professionals in private practice requiring HIPAA-compliant transcription
  • Privacy-focused technology teams at security-conscious organisations

(Clearminutes is a growing product - we don't disclose individual customer names, but our user base spans privacy-conscious professionals in regulated industries.)
