Https://circle.so/pricing/ I would guess even if DDG protects your privacy, it would use information (perhaps search and or site history) the browser is broadcasting regardless to filter results it pipes to the end point. For example I never see quora results (honestly it's been some years so I'd forgotten they existed still) as some members in this thread were annoyed with and paid to be done with them ... What is the reason you are trying to go custom? https://circle.so this is probably the best platform I have seen. Big and small companies use it (even webflow) so it has great adoption works well. Being a co-founder, I often have to wear lots of different hats and needed a way to better manage multiple identities in my browser. I tried Chrome profiles and Firefox containers, but both felt messy. Instead, I wrote my own browser called Wavebox. It started as an Electron app but after quickly finding all the limitations, dropped Electron and built directly on top of Chromium. I don't get it either. I use wavebox, which as far as I can tell has all the same features as Arc, as well more features. It's stable, fast and built off chromium just like Arc.
