Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Chess.com and Knowess.

What's the story behind your product?

Knowess's answer:

Knowess started as a personal project to explore the design space of constraint-based number puzzles. The classic Mastermind format felt underrepresented in modern web games — most implementations are visually dated or buried in ads. The goal was to build a clean, fast, and genuinely replayable version with more player control over the rules.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Knowess's answer:

Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, React, deployed on Vercel.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Knowess's answer:

Knowess is a free-to-play game with no paying customers. It serves individual players directly — no B2B customers or enterprise accounts.

What makes your product unique?

Knowess's answer:

Knowess offers two distinct feedback modes — Any Match and Exact Match — that go beyond the standard Bulls & Cows formula. Each mode requires a fundamentally different deduction strategy, and players can also adjust the number length (3–10 digits) and toggle repeated digits. The Daily Challenge adds a fresh puzzle every day with structured hint clues unique to each session.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Knowess's answer:

Most number deduction games lock you into one feedback style. Knowess lets you choose your mode, set your difficulty, and jump straight into play — no account, no download, no ads cluttering the interface. It's designed around pure logical deduction with a clean, distraction-free UI.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Knowess's answer:

Logic puzzle enthusiasts, casual brain-training players, and anyone who enjoys deduction-based games like Wordle, Mastermind, or Sudoku. The adjustable difficulty makes it accessible to beginners while the harder configurations (10 digits, repeats enabled) appeal to experienced puzzle solvers.
