Home maintenance reminders that grumble. Grumpty tracks the recurring upkeep your home needs, even the jobs you never knew were jobs, emails you in time to act, then lines up the next one when you mark it done.

Grumpty is a home maintenance reminder for homeowners who'd rather not think about home maintenance.

Most reminder apps repeat a task on a date. Grumpty does the bit they can't: it turns up with the right list for your home already written, grumbles by email while there's still time to actually book the job (not the day it's already overdue), sorts overdue from what can wait, and reschedules the next occurrence from the day you mark it done.

The jobs it's built for are the ones that bite: the gutters quietly steering water into the foundation, the dryer vent packed with lint, the water heater anode rod you've never heard of, the sewer line you're meant to scope every couple of years and forget until it backs up.

What it won't do: pester you, sell you, sell your data, or upsell a warranty. The core loop stays free, and you can export and clear off whenever you like. Free while it's in beta.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Chart and Grumpty.

What makes your product unique?

Grumpty's answer:

Most reminder apps repeat a task on a date and leave you to it. Grumpty does the part they won't:

  • Comes with the list already written for your home, including the jobs you never knew were jobs.
  • Grumbles by email while there's still time to book it, not the morning it's overdue.
  • Reschedules from the day you actually did it, not some fixed calendar date.
  • Built for the jobs that quietly cost you money: the gutters steering water into the foundation, the dryer vent packed with lint, the anode rod nobody's heard of.

And it grumbles about the chore, never at you.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Grumpty's answer:

The rivals are home-management suites: inventory, budgets, documents, a whole dashboard to feed. Grumpty isn't that.

  • Does one thing well: the recurring-upkeep loop, with no spreadsheet to keep alive.
  • The core loop stays free. No warranty upsell, no selling your data.
  • Yours to leave. Export and clear off whenever you like.
  • Not miserable to use. A grumpy pig is better company than a productivity dashboard.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Grumpty's answer:

Ordinary homeowners, US first, who'd rather not think about home maintenance, let alone run a spreadsheet to track it.

Especially the newly landed and the accidentally responsible: bought a place, inherited a pile of jobs they've never heard of, and no system beyond a vague sense of dread. Grumpty holds the list so they don't have to.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Grumpty's answer:

  • Next.js 16 (React, TypeScript), hosted on Vercel
  • Supabase (Postgres + auth), with Drizzle as the ORM
  • Tailwind + shadcn (built on Base UI) for the front
  • Resend sends the daily grumbles
  • Cloudflare Turnstile keeps the bots out
  • A PWA, so it pins to your phone with no app store in sight

What's the story behind your product?

Grumpty's answer:

The founder bought a 1920 ex-rental with far too much to do and went looking for a tool for the jobs that come round less than once a year. The sewer line you're meant to scope for tree roots. The anode rod that rusts so the tank doesn't.

He found nothing he liked, so he built the grump he wanted: a pig who remembers the dull jobs on time. The name's the fairy tale. The third pig did the boring work and kept his house standing while the other two were larking about. Be the third pig.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Grumpty's answer:

It's early, so there are no big logos to wave about, and Grumpty wouldn't name them if there were. The customers are homeowners with gutters they've been ignoring and water heaters they've never once looked at.
