As answered by people managing CardPrices.io and Learn JavaScript.
CardPrices.io's answer
Breadth with no drop in quality. Most price tools cover one or two games properly and treat the rest as an afterthought — Card Prices tracks 24 trading card games with the same daily data, the same price history, and the same features across all of them. If you collect Pokémon and One Piece and Lorcana, that's one collection in one place instead of three tools that don't talk to each other. It also ships things most price sites don't: a free public API, an embeddable price widget, and a Discord bot that answers price lookups in your server.
CardPrices.io's answer
Nothing is gated. The collection tracker, card scanner, price alerts, price history and API are free for everyone — there's no tier that unlocks features. The iOS and Android apps carry no ads and no in-app purchases at all. Competitors like Collectr and CollX put collection features behind subscriptions; here the only paid option is $1.99/month on the website to remove ads, and it unlocks nothing.
The other reason is coverage. If your collection spans more than one game, most tools force you to pick.
CardPrices.io's answer
Collectors and traders who track what their cards are worth — particularly anyone who collects across more than one game, since that's where single-game tools fall down. It covers both ends: someone checking whether a card pulled from a pack is worth keeping, and someone managing a collection worth thousands who needs price history, graded estimates and alerts. Developers are a secondary audience, via the free API.
CardPrices.io's answer
It started as separate single-game sites — one for Yu-Gi-Oh!, one for Magic, one for Pokémon, one for One Piece — each tracking prices for its own game. Running them side by side made the problem obvious: collectors don't stay in one game, but every price tool assumes they do, so people were juggling several sites to value one collection.
In 2025 they were consolidated into a single site covering every game at once, and the coverage grew from four games to 24 — including games like Lorcana, Vanguard and Gundam that larger price sites still barely support.
CardPrices.io's answer
Next.js 15 and React 19 (TypeScript) on the web, React Native and Expo for the iOS and Android apps, and a Node.js/Express API backed by MongoDB with Redis caching. Hosted on Vercel and Cloudflare. The card scanner runs a Python image-recognition service using EfficientNet embeddings with FAISS similarity search.
