Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing builtinEu.Eu and Socket for Python.

What's the story behind your product?

builtinEu.Eu's answer

It started from a simple frustration: every time you Google "alternative to [US product]", you get results that are mostly other US products. After the Schrems II ruling made it clear that US cloud services can't fully comply with EU data law, we built BuiltInEU to be the go-to directory for European-made, privacy-first software. The goal is to make switching easy, not just possible.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

builtinEu.Eu's answer

Privacy-conscious Europeans. From individuals who want their personal data to stay in the EU, to businesses and IT teams that need GDPR-compliant tools to replace US software. Also increasingly relevant for anyone concerned about US data sovereignty.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

builtinEu.Eu's answer

Most alternative-finder sites list everything under the sun without caring where your data ends up. We specifically vet for EU hosting, GDPR compliance, and freedom from US surveillance laws like FISA 702 and the CLOUD Act. Plus we cover 300+ alternatives across 30+ categories with real user reviews and detailed feature comparisons.

What makes your product unique?

builtinEu.Eu's answer

We're focused on one thing: Helping people find European alternatives to US tech products. Unlike generic software directories, every product we list is verified for GDPR compliance and EU data hosting. We also provide step-by-step migration guides so you don't just find an alternative; you actually know how to switch.
