PathWatch is a web monitoring platform that combines traditional uptime checks with real browser testing. Run Playwright-powered checks in Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit to verify logins, checkouts, and multi-step user journeys โ€” not just whether a port answers.

Monitor HTTP uptime, SSL certificates, DNS records, ports, domain expiry, keywords, heartbeats/cron jobs, and full browser flows from 46 cloud locations across 7 continents, or from inside your own network with self-hosted Docker runners.

Everything is flat-rate monthly pricing with no per-check or per-run charges: status pages with custom domains and themes, incidents and maintenance windows, monitor groups, escalation policies, and 13 alert channel types (Slack, PagerDuty, Microsoft Teams, Discord, Telegram, SMS, webhooks, and more) are included. Free plan available with no credit card required.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Better Stack and PathWatch.app.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Better Stack's answer

Engineering teams of all sizes โ€“ from startups to Fortune 500 companies.

PathWatch.app's answer:

Developers, agencies, and startups who have outgrown free-tier pingers but can't justify enterprise monitoring prices. Typical users: a developer monitoring side projects and client sites on the free or Starter plan, an agency watching dozens of client websites with status pages per client, and SaaS teams who need real browser flow checks, escalation policies, and team access without per-run billing anxiety. It's an especially good fit for platform and DevOps teams managing growing infrastructure who want monitoring-as-code: every monitor, alert rule, and status page can be provisioned through the REST API, with an official Terraform provider on the way so monitoring ships in the same pull request as the infrastructure it watches.

What makes your product unique?

Better Stack's answer

Better Stack is a modern observability tool that leverages eBPF and OpenTelemetry to make tracing work for you.

PathWatch.app's answer:

PathWatch runs real browser checks: actual Chromium, Firefox, and WebKit sessions powered by Playwright, at flat-rate monthly pricing. Most monitoring tools either only ping your site or charge per browser-check run, which makes real user-journey monitoring expensive and unpredictable. PathWatch includes browser checks, multi-step flow testing (logins, checkouts, signups), and classic uptime, SSL, DNS, port, and domain monitoring in one platform with no per-check charges. Checks run from 46 locations across 7 continents, and key locations are hardened across two independent cloud providers so a cloud outage doesn't blind your monitoring. You can also run checks from inside your own network with self-hosted Docker runners. Same platform, same dashboard.

What's the story behind your product?

Better Stack's answer

We are software builders at Better Stack.

CEO is a software engineer, COO is a software engineer and you guessed it; CTO is an engineer, too.

Weโ€™re helping developers ship higher quality software faster.

PathWatch.app's answer:

PathWatch is built by Vertexion Platforms Ltd, a UK company. It started from a familiar frustration: synthetic browser monitoring, the kind that actually tells you whether users can log in and pay, was either missing from affordable tools or priced per run by the enterprise ones. That makes costs unpredictable exactly when you scale up checks. We built PathWatch to close that gap. It runs real Playwright browsers across three engines at a flat monthly price anyone can budget for, on infrastructure spread across multiple clouds and 46 global locations. Launched in 2026, it ships the full monitoring stack from day one: uptime, browser flows, status pages, incidents, and alerting.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Better Stack's answer

You get an unrivaled price-to-performance ratio. Forget sampling and ingest all your data, or decrease your costs by 30x.

PathWatch.app's answer:

Predictable cost and deeper checks. With per-run pricing competitors, a browser check every 5 minutes from 3 locations can cost hundreds per month. On PathWatch it's included in a flat plan starting at $4.99/mo, with a genuinely usable free tier (50 monitors). You get the whole stack without add-on pricing: status pages with custom themes, incident management, maintenance windows, escalation policies, 13 alert channel types from Slack to PagerDuty to SMS, monitor groups, role-based team access with 2FA and SSO/SCIM, and a full REST API. As your infrastructure grows, you can automate all of it as code instead of clicking through dashboards: define monitors, alert rules, and status pages once, then roll them out across every new service with the API today and the official Terraform provider that is about to ship. Your monitoring tests what users actually experience, like whether a login works or a checkout completes, not just that port 443 answers.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Better Stack's answer

The primary technologies used to build Better Stack are eBPF for low-level, high-performance instrumentation and ClickHouse for storing and querying large volumes of observability data efficiently.

PathWatch.app's answer:

TypeScript and Node.js across the stack. The API is built on Hono with PostgreSQL and Redis, and the web app is SvelteKit with Tailwind CSS. Browser checks run on Playwright (Chromium, Firefox, WebKit). The check network runs on AWS Lambda and Google Cloud Run across 46 locations, with core services on Hetzner behind Cloudflare. Everything is containerised with Docker and provisioned with Terraform, and we're shipping that same automation to customers as an official Terraform provider for managing monitors, alerting, and status pages as code. Self-hosted runners use the same Docker image customers can run on their own infrastructure.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?
