Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Bet Better and Opalstack.

What makes your product unique?

Bet Better's answer

Every pick comes from our own statistical models — and every pick is graded in public afterwards, wins and losses. Most picks sites show you their winners; we publish the whole record. There's a free pick every day with no signup, the confidence is explained in plain words, and the research behind the models is published openly with citable datasets anyone can check.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Bet Better's answer

Three reasons: proof, price and plainness. Proof — the full record is public and graded, not cherry-picked. Price — the free tier is genuinely useful: a daily pick, odds comparison across ~50 bookmakers, value finder, live scores and calculators, no signup. Plainness — everything is written for a normal person: confidence in words, returns in dollars, no jargon.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Bet Better's answer

Everyday sports fans who bet recreationally and want one clear, honest answer — "what's the best bet tonight and how confident are you?" — without needing to understand betting math. Analysts and researchers also use our open datasets and free API.

What's the story behind your product?

Bet Better's answer

It started with a simple frustration: betting content is either hype with no accountability or math no normal person can use. So we built statistical models that price every game across 12 sports, made the record public — wins and losses — and wrote everything in plain English. The research side grew from there: open datasets and working papers measuring how betting markets actually price.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Bet Better's answer

Statistical and machine-learning models built in R, running thousands of simulations per game across a continuously collected odds archive (millions of price snapshots across ~50 bookmakers). The platform runs on ASP.NET and SQL Server, with a free public JSON API on top.
