I was building a Shopify app and could not answer a basic question: why did installs move this week? The Partner Dashboard shows you installs, not the reasons behind them — you cannot see where you rank for a search, who overtook you, or what a competitor changed. Checking by hand in an incognito window every morning is what most developers end up doing, and it does not scale past a few keywords.
So I built a crawler for myself. It grew into a daily crawl of the whole store, and the answers it produced turned out to be useful enough that other developers wanted them. That dataset is now BestAppify — and we still publish research from it publicly, partly because a dataset you can check is worth more than one you have to trust.

The Shopify App Store is a different marketplace: different ranking signals, different review patterns, no public ranking API, and merchants who search in commerce language rather than app-store language. In practice that means keyword difficulty scored against the apps actually ranking on Shopify, alerts on Shopify listing and pricing changes, and audits written against what ranks there. I was optimistically hoping some of the MV3 changes would result in Chrome webstore policy enforcement being standardized, but that hasn't happened.
