Possible disadvantages

  • High Cost
Autodesk Smoke is relatively expensive, which can be a significant barrier for individual users or small studios with limited budgets.
  • Steep Learning Curve
The software has a complex interface and extensive set of features which can be challenging to learn, especially for beginners or those transitioning from simpler editing tools.
  • System Requirements
Smoke requires a powerful computer system with high-end specifications, limiting its accessibility to users with less advanced hardware.
  • Limited Platform Availability
Smoke is primarily available for macOS, limiting its use for those who rely on other operating systems like Windows or Linux.
  • Subscription Model
The software is available on a subscription basis, which can be less appealing to users who prefer one-time purchases over recurring payments.
  • Improved Code Organization
Modular JavaScript allows developers to break down code into smaller, manageable modules. This enhances code readability and maintainability by organizing related functionality together.
  • Code Reusability
Modules encourage reusability by allowing the same piece of code to be used across different projects or multiple areas of the same application, reducing redundancy.
  • Scalability
As the application grows, managing code becomes easier with modular JavaScript. Each module can be developed, tested, and maintained independently, making the codebase more scalable.
  • Encapsulation
Modules provide encapsulation, preventing variables and functions from polluting the global namespace. This reduces the risk of naming conflicts and bugs.
  • Improved Testing
With code organized into discrete modules, writing unit tests becomes more straightforward. Each module can be tested individually, leading to more reliable and maintainable tests.

Possible disadvantages

  • Increased Complexity
Introducing modularity can add complexity to the build process, as it often requires module loaders or bundlers (like Webpack or Browserify) to manage dependencies.
  • Overhead
For smaller projects, using a modular approach might be overkill, introducing unnecessary overhead in terms of setup, configuration, and code management.
  • Learning Curve
Developers unfamiliar with modular JavaScript may face a learning curve, especially when dealing with module patterns, loaders, and bundlers.
  • Dependency Management
Relying on multiple modules can lead to complex dependency chains, making it challenging to track and resolve dependencies across different modules.
  • Performance Overhead
Modular JavaScript can introduce performance overhead if not managed properly, such as loading many small modules individually, leading to increased HTTP requests.

This has broken autodesk.com when I'm decrypting it. I've tried downgrading it to TLS1.2 with a decryption policy with no success. Bypassing of course works. Source: about 5 years ago
