assertpy features and specs

  • Fluent API
Assertpy offers a fluent API that makes assertions more readable and expressive, enabling developers to write assertions in a natural language style that is easy to understand.
  • Chainable Assertions
It allows for chainable assertions, enabling multiple checks to be performed in a single line of code, thereby reducing verbosity and enhancing clarity.
  • Comprehensive Assertion Methods
The library provides a wide range of built-in assertion methods, catering to various types of data validations, such as checking for size, type, value, and more.
  • Extensibility
Assertpy supports extending its functionality by defining custom assertions, allowing developers to tailor it to their specific needs.
  • Pythonic
Designed with Pythonic principles in mind, Assertpy fits seamlessly into Python projects, enabling idiomatic and consistent code style.

Possible disadvantages of assertpy

  • Learning Curve
Developers new to the library may encounter a learning curve due to the distinct approach of using fluent and chainable assertions as opposed to traditional methods.
  • Limited by Python Version
The library may have limitations in terms of compatibility with older versions of Python, requiring users to ensure their environment is up-to-date.
  • Performance Overhead
The additional abstraction layer introduced by a fluent interface might introduce some performance overhead, especially in performance-critical or resource-constrained environments.
  • Less Community Support
Compared to more established testing libraries, Assertpy might have less community support and fewer resources available for resolving issues or getting help.
  • Dependency Management
Using a third-party library introduces additional dependencies to manage, which could complicate project maintenance and compatibility.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing assertpy and SaaS Boat.

What makes your product unique?

SaaS Boat's answer:

Every other design reference tool shows you what a UI looks like. SaaS Boat shows you why it was designed that way. Each of the 258 SaaS apps in the library is evaluated against Nielsen's 10 usability heuristics โ€” the gold standard framework in UX research โ€” with structured pass/fail breakdowns and written analysis notes. You're not browsing screenshots for inspiration; you're reading research that explains what works, what fails, and the reasoning behind real product decisions. No other tool does heuristic evaluation at this scale.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

SaaS Boat's answer:

Competitors like Screenlane, Refero, and Page Flows are screenshot galleries โ€” they show you what exists. SaaS Boat is a research library โ€” it tells you why it exists and whether it actually works. If you're a designer justifying a pattern to stakeholders, a PM trying to make a design decision without gut feel, or a developer trying to understand the UX intent behind what you're building, you need analysis, not inspiration. SaaS Boat is built for that workflow. Free to start, no credit card required.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

SaaS Boat's answer:

UX designers, product managers, and developers who build SaaS products and need structured design research โ€” not just visual inspiration. Specifically: designers benchmarking their work against real products before presenting to stakeholders; PMs looking for evidence to back design decisions; developers who want to understand the UX reasoning behind the patterns they implement. Secondary audience: UX researchers using the heuristic database for competitive analysis and design students studying real-world usability principles.

What's the story behind your product?

SaaS Boat's answer:

SaaS Boat started from a recurring frustration: every time a design decision came up, the research process was the same โ€” open 10 apps, take screenshots, try to figure out why something works, repeat. There was no place that had done this work properly and made it searchable. Screenshot galleries existed, but they showed you what, not why. So I built the tool I wished existed: a structured, heuristic-evaluated library of real SaaS products โ€” the research done once, accessible to everyone building products.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

SaaS Boat's answer:

WordPress (content management and member access control), WPBakery (page builder), Gumroad (payment processing and subscription management), Google Analytics (traffic and event tracking).

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

SaaS Boat's answer:

SaaS Boat launched in May 2026 and is in early growth, we don't yet have named enterprise customers to list.
