Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing AnyTool.tech and Smallpdf.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

AnyTool.tech's answer

Next.js as a static export, so the site is prerendered files on a CDN with no application server. In the browser: pdf-lib and pdf.js for documents, ffmpeg.wasm for video and audio, Tesseract.js for OCR, transformers.js for on-device AI such as background removal, image upscaling and speech recognition, and pica for image resampling. Heavy work runs in Web Workers so the interface stays responsive. Model weights are self-hosted and fetched once to the browser, then cached.

What makes your product unique?

AnyTool.tech's answer

There is no upload endpoint. AnyTool is a static site, and every one of its 1,298 tools runs inside your browser using WebAssembly and Web Workers — so your file is read, processed and saved by your own device and never travels anywhere. That is architecture rather than policy: there is no server to hold a file, so there is nothing to retain, nothing to leak, and no promise you have to take on trust. You can check it yourself — disconnect from the internet and most tools keep working.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

AnyTool.tech's answer

Two reasons. First, scale: 1,298 tools across 14 categories in one place, so you are not hunting a different site for every task. Second, and it matters more for anything sensitive: competitors upload your file to their servers and delete it afterwards on a promise. AnyTool cannot leak your document because it never receives it. For a payslip, a contract, an ID scan or a medical report, that difference outweighs any feature. There is also no account, no usage limit and no watermark — there is no per-user compute cost to meter.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

AnyTool.tech's answer

Anyone who needs to do something to a file and would rather it did not leave their device. In practice that splits three ways: people handling documents that are personal or regulated — payslips, contracts, identity documents, medical records; students and job applicants in India dealing with government and exam portals that demand exact file sizes and formats; and developers and designers who want a quick, dependable utility without installing anything or signing up.

What's the story behind your product?

AnyTool.tech's answer

It started with the ordinary annoyance of uploading a private document to a stranger's server just to compress it. Every free online PDF tool works the same way — your file goes to their backend, gets processed, and is deleted on a promise you cannot verify. That is a poor trade for saving 200KB. Browsers can now do that work themselves: WebAssembly made real encoders, PDF engines and OCR possible inside a tab. So the sensible answer was to build the tools where the file already is. What began as a handful of PDF utilities became 1,298 tools across 14 categories.
