AmberMap is a forecasting platform for Baltic amber hunters. Instead of guessing, it models the physics that actually bring amber to the beach โ€” wave energy, onshore wind sectors, water temperature and storm dynamics โ€” and turns them into an hourly, color-coded forecast map covering beaches across the Baltic Sea coast. The forecast is validated against a real dataset of documented amber finds. Free tier shows today's forecast; premium extends the horizon up to 10 days. Available on the web in Polish, English and German, with a mobile app on Google Play (iOS coming). Built by a small team that combines coastal physics with a genuine amber-hunting obsession.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing AmberMap and MT4API.dev.

What makes your product unique?

AmberMap's answer

AmberMap is a physics-based forecast of when and where Baltic amber is likely to wash ashore โ€” not a generic weather app.

  • It models the actual drivers of amber deposition: wave energy, onshore wind sectors, water temperature and storm dynamics.
  • It turns them into an hourly, color-coded forecast map for beaches across the Baltic Sea coast.
  • The forecast is validated against a real dataset of documented amber finds, so it's grounded in data rather than folklore.
  • Available in Polish, English and German on the web, plus an Android app.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

AmberMap's answer

There's no direct competitor that forecasts amber. Most people rely on general weather and wave apps (like Windy or Windfinder) plus rules of thumb such as "go after a storm." AmberMap turns that guesswork into a specific, validated forecast:

  • Instead of reading raw wind and wave numbers and guessing, you get a direct read on amber-hunting odds for each beach, hour by hour.
  • It's tuned to the physics of amber transport and deposition, not general sea conditions.
  • It's checked against a real dataset of documented finds, so the forecast reflects what actually happens on the beach.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

AmberMap's answer

AmberMap is built as a modern web + mobile stack:

  • Web app: Next.js (React, TypeScript), Tailwind CSS, and Leaflet for the interactive forecast map.
  • Data & backend: physics models written in TypeScript with weather and marine data from Open-Meteo and Copernicus Marine.
  • Mobile: React Native (Expo) for the Android app.
  • Hosting: Vercel.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

AmberMap's answer

AmberMap is for people who walk the Baltic beaches looking for amber:

  • Hobbyist amber hunters and beachcombers, from curious families to dedicated collectors.
  • Coastal tourists in Poland, Germany and the wider Baltic who want to time a beach walk for after a storm.
  • Anyone who has picked a piece of amber off the sand and wondered when the next good day will be.

It's a consumer app โ€” web in Polish, English and German, plus an Android app โ€” built for enthusiasts rather than businesses.

What's the story behind your product?

AmberMap's answer

AmberMap was built by a small team that combines coastal physics with a genuine amber-hunting obsession.

Amber hunters have always known that storms wash amber ashore โ€” but which beach, and which day, was guesswork passed down as folklore. We wanted to model it properly: the wave energy that mobilizes amber from the seabed, the onshore winds that carry it in, and the water temperature and storm dynamics that decide whether it lands.

What began as an attempt to turn that physics into a real forecast grew into AmberMap โ€” a platform validated against a dataset of documented finds, so the predictions are tested against what actually washes up, not just theory.
