There is a learning curve, there is quite a lot of it, but it is still way easier than some other platforms. I've used and abused AWS and EC2 specifically and for me it is the best.

Like any other tool, it's in how you use it. If it's just a case of, "Go play games to learn how to spell!" then yes, I agree (and is why I never installed Angry Birds, much to some teacher's chagrin).
