  • Resource Intensive
Adobe software can be resource-intensive, requiring powerful hardware, which may necessitate additional investment in equipment.
  • Complexity
The feature-rich nature of Adobe's tools can be overwhelming for beginners, requiring a steep learning curve to master the software effectively.

Possible disadvantages of PDFly.eu

  • Privacy and Security Concerns
Uploading sensitive or confidential documents to a third-party online service always carries inherent privacy and data security risks, which may not be suitable for business or legal documents.
  • Internet Dependency
Being a web-based tool, it requires a stable internet connection to function. Users without reliable internet access or those who need to work offline cannot use the service.
  • Lesser-Known Platform
PDFly.eu is a relatively lesser-known service compared to established competitors like Smallpdf, ILovePDF, or Adobe, which means there is less community feedback, fewer reviews, and potentially less trust from users regarding reliability and longevity.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Adobe and PDFly.eu.

What makes your product unique?

PDFly.eu's answer:

PDFly runs the 12 most-used PDF tools (merge, split, compress, rotate, JPG/PDF, watermark, page numbers...) entirely in your browser via WebAssembly. Files never leave your device. Combined with EU hosting in Paris and pricing at €4,99/month (vs $7-19 for US competitors), PDFly is positioned as a privacy-first European alternative to iLovePDF, SmallPDF, and Adobe Acrobat Online.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

PDFly.eu's answer:

  1. Privacy: 12 free tools process files 100% in the browser — no upload, no server, no Cloud Act exposure.
  2. EU jurisdiction: hosted in Paris, France. GDPR-compliant by design, no US subprocessors for tool processing.
  3. Price: Premium at €4,99/month, half the price of iLovePDF Premium ($7) or SmallPDF Pro ($12).
  4. Multilingual: native UI in 6 European languages (FR, EN, ES, DE, IT, NL).

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

PDFly.eu's answer:

European professionals and individuals who handle sensitive documents under GDPR: legal, medical, HR, public sector, education, accounting. Also EU-conscious freelancers, small businesses, and anyone uncomfortable uploading personal files to US-based PDF services.

What's the story behind your product?

PDFly.eu's answer:

Built in Belgium in early 2026 after the founder kept hesitating to upload contracts and ID scans to iLovePDF and SmallPDF — both routing files through US servers under the Cloud Act. The realization that no major European alternative existed at a competitive price became the launch thesis: rebuild the iLovePDF feature set, but with browser-side processing for privacy and EU hosting for jurisdiction.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

PDFly.eu's answer:

  • Frontend: Next.js 15 (App Router), TypeScript, React 19, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui
  • PDF processing: pdf-lib, pdfjs-dist, WebAssembly (browser-side)
  • Server tools: Python (PyMuPDF, pikepdf), Tesseract OCR, LibreOffice (server-side)
  • Auth: NextAuth (Auth.js v5) with Resend magic links
  • Database: Prisma + SQLite
  • Payments: Stripe Checkout + Webhooks + Tax
  • Hosting: single VPS in Paris (France), Docker Compose, nginx
  • i18n: next-intl (6 languages)
