  • Coder with traefik2 reverse proxy

  • How do you actually save a file in vscode-web?
When you are using that or https://coder.com/ (the self hosted web fork) you have the full client that includes git. You also have the port redirects for connecting to local resources. Source: 10 months ago
  • Buying an iPad Pro for coding was a mistake
Because it doesnt have public IP I access it using Tailscale[2]. I especially like the pen, which allows for nice notes and also diagrams. The other nice thing is, that even when I work from some place with bad wifi. I can still download and upload large files because the server is connected to optics. • Codespaces but open-source, client-only, and unopinionated
What are some of the competitors in this space? - Gitpod, a SaaS competitor to Codespaces. http://gitpod.io - Coder, which I guess is the more enterprisey self-hosted Codespaces alternative? https://coder.com - This project, Devpod, seems to be a polished experience but not centralized like Coder. - I recently stumbled upon Recode, which looks like a more indie take on the problem. - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
  • Devcontainers in k8s
There are a lot of interesting tools out there that you can incorporate such as https://coder.com/. Source: 11 months ago
  • Opinion: Github Codespaces is the best thing to ever happen to "local" development. Docker Desktop is on the chopping block.
I mean I feel the pain here for sure. If you are stuck in windows hell any modern tech stack is just painful. Github stole this whole thing from https://coder.com/ and if you want to replicate this without being tied into their nonsense I would highly recommend it. If you aren't on some form of unix (Mac or linux) something like a remote dev experience is almost required. There is a reason that I refuse to work... Source: about 1 year ago
  • Is there a simple self hosted alternative to Github Codespaces/Gitpod?
I've had good experiences with Coder, though it does use Terraform for the templates (they have some prebuilt ones u can deploy and go). Source: about 1 year ago

  • Cloud desktops aren't as good as you'd think - "Let's give developers a Chromebook and a VM running in the cloud"

  • I made a Flat-file CMS for Developers with Vue.js
But the full blown VSCode environments like Github Codespaces or Coder are what would be a more direct replacement. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Is there a way to make a fully portable dev setup?
Coder V2 seems like a cool option. I'm using it now to build out a reproducible developer platform. Super flexible, as it uses Terraform to build out whatever environment you want to provide to developers. Still beta, but seems like it might become a really solid option in this space.
