Callulu is a macOS menu bar app that puts one of eight visual cues on screen: a flash to start, a dimming of everything but the center of the screen, a light that passes along one edge at an interval you choose, a lit ember at the edge, a water surface, a still eye, a breathing guide, and a slow softening of the whole screen to end the day.
Every cue has its own switch, one switch turns all of them off, and the effect strength is adjustable. The overlays draw across all Spaces and over full-screen apps, and they are click-through.
There are two editions. The Mac App Store edition is free for 14 days, then $3.99 once. The direct edition is $14.99 once and adds keyboard shortcuts. Drawing the cues needs no system permission.
macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Cues can also be triggered from elsewhere through a callulu:// URL, so Shortcuts, Raycast or a terminal command can fire one.
Note: the opening cue is a brief flash across the whole screen, and several cues change display brightness. Anyone sensitive to flashing light should leave that cue switched off.

Each cue has one job
LIGHTNING to begin, SHADE to focus, WISP to pause, EMBER to feel safe, UNDINE to regain composure, LULL to step back, SYLPH to reset, LUNA to finish. The menu shows each job under the cue's name.
Runs from Shortcuts and the terminal
Any cue can be started through a callulu:// link, so Shortcuts, Raycast, Alfred or one line in Terminal can run one.
People who spend long stretches alone at a Mac and want something on the screen to mark the parts of the day: getting started, settling into a task, stepping back, and stopping at a reasonable hour.
It also suits people on older hardware, since it runs on macOS 13 and on Intel as well as Apple silicon.
