  • Notion Releases Offline Mode
This is pretty impressive. A lot of people underestimate the amount of work required to make something available offline. Planning the syncing architecture alone is a monumental task, especially at the scale Notion operates. I built a custom sync solution for my own app, Brisqi (https://brisqi.com), and it took me weeks to get it right, albeit with some trade-offs. Kudos to the Notion engineering team for... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Local-first software: You own your data, in spite of the cloud
This was refreshing to read! More apps should be local-first. If the user does not want to sync their data to cloud, they should have that option. I’ve been building the offline-first (or local-first) app Brisqi[0] for a while now, it was designed from the ground up with the offline-first philosophy. In my view, a local-first app is designed to function completely offline for an indefinite period. The local... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
Built a privacy focused Kanban board app called Brisqi - https://brisqi.com. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Achieving More: How software engineers can benefit from Kanban
For all my personal projects, I use the offline Kanban app Brisqi for personal task management. This tool provides a level of privacy and control that’s essential for my workflow and having a private space to manage tasks allows me to keep my thoughts and projects secure. - Source: dev.to / almost 2 years ago

  • About Offline First
    > Offline-First is a software paradigm where the software must work as well offline as it does online. I've been building offline-first apps[0] for quite a while in both desktop and mobile space. I have a different definition[1] of what an offline-first app is: Offline-first apps are apps which can run and function completely offline or without needing the internet for an indefinite amount of time. To... - Source: Hacker News / almost 5 years ago
  • How I designed an offline-first app. An outline.
Last week I wrote a blog post on how I built my app in React, React Native and NextJS. This blog post gives an insight on how I made it into an offline-first app. There are many ways to build an offline-first app so this is a general outline of how I built it and not a one-way-of-doing-things guide. I use NoSQL database so I use the word 'documents' throughout the blog post, but you can think of them as a record... - Source: dev.to / about 5 years ago
  • I built my app in React, React Native and NextJS. Lessons learned.
Hey all, I've been working with React, React Native and NextJS to build my app Brisqi. I learned various things along the way which helped me a lot with the development and in improving performance overall. I've documented all those points in this article. I hope its helpful to you or comes in handy. Source: about 5 years ago
  • I built my app in React, React Native and NextJS. Lessons learned.
I developed an offline-first personal Kanban app called Brisqi and launched it for 5 different platforms. I started this project with 2 purposes - to learn React and to build my own offline Kanban app as I always wanted one. I've been working on Brisqi since June last year. - Source: dev.to / about 5 years ago
  • Brisqi - Offline-first personal Kanban app
I created Brisqi - an offline-first personal Kanban/task management app. I made this app because I needed a productivity app which could run without needing internet. Also, I'm a huge fan of Kanban methodology. Source: over 5 years ago
  • Focalboard – a self-hosted alternative to Trello, Notion, and Asana
Nice, self-hosted is great. It's clean and nicely designed, looks a bit similar to Notion. It seems like they built the webapp and loaded it in webviews in native UI framework for each operating system. I wonder why did they do that and if there are any benefits of it instead of going with electron because it's a browser still. On a side note, I also developed a personal Kanban tool - https://brisqi.com. I'm... - Source: Hacker News / over 5 years ago
