BookWyrm.social is a social book tracher similiar to sites like Goodreads and StoryGraph. Source: almost 3 years ago
So I've seen some talk about social reading sites on here and I want to recommend as an alternative https://bookwyrm.social which I have been using for one or two years now. It is a federated service which means that several instances of it exist which can share information with each other (like Mastodon). Source: over 3 years ago
Iโve heard good things about BookWyrm: https://bookwyrm.social/. Source: over 3 years ago
Clarifying question: How will this be different from https://bookwyrm.social/? Source: over 3 years ago
Goodreads is owned by Amazon, if you want an independent tool for tracking your reads, there's Bookwyrm https://bookwyrm.social/. Source: over 3 years ago
I used the zebra crossing app ("barcode scanner") in mass scan mode to scan all my books. The app keeps a history of scanned items and you can export it as CSV. This of course is not very "nice" but a very fast way to scan all your books. There is also some JS implementation for isbn scanning which works ok. It is used by bookwyrm which is open-source (but not free software). Source: almost 4 years ago
> So far Mastodon and their goodreads clone Had to look this up, I think you mean BookWyrm(?). https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28420580 https://bookwyrm.social/. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
Bookwyrm - A Goodreads alternative. Share one's reading list history, rate and discuss books. Source: about 4 years ago
For those with an interest in books, try BookWyrm [1]. It's a Mastodon instance that caters for books (think 'federated Goodreads'). I use it to put up my reviews of books and to find new books and bookish people. [1] https://bookwyrm.social/. - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
Related to the recent post on Mastodon. All these implementations speak the same higher-level protocol and you can therefore connect, follow, and share between them. Two more not mentioned: https://writefreely.org/ (Blog platform) https://bookwyrm.social/ (Goodreads alternative). - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
Fediverse > mastodon. Granted the other platforms not yet well populated but if you look e.g. At bookwyrm, its got nothing to do with twitter https://bookwyrm.social/. - Source: Hacker News / over 4 years ago
I've seen this decentralized version of GoodReads. I found the news through wedistribute.org. - Source: dev.to / over 4 years ago
That info is out of date, bookwyrm.social is in open registration now. A more accurate list of instances is available here: https://joinbookwyrm.com/instances/. I signed up on bookwyrm.social (here: https://bookwyrm.social), though it took a notably long time to receive the email confirmation message. - Source: Hacker News / over 4 years ago
