I was building a Shopify app and could not answer a basic question: why did installs move this week? The Partner Dashboard shows you installs, not the reasons behind them — you cannot see where you rank for a search, who overtook you, or what a competitor changed. Checking by hand in an incognito window every morning is what most developers end up doing, and it does not scale past a few keywords.
So I built a crawler for myself. It grew into a daily crawl of the whole store, and the answers it produced turned out to be useful enough that other developers wanted them. That dataset is now BestAppify — and we still publish research from it publicly, partly because a dataset you can check is worth more than one you have to trust.
BestAppify runs its own daily crawl of the Shopify App Store — 10,900+ live listings and 2,300+ search terms — rather than estimating from third-party sources. That means rank positions, review velocity and competitor listing changes are measured, not inferred. It is also built for one marketplace only: the Shopify App Store has no public ranking API and its own review dynamics, so a general-purpose ASO tool pointed at it produces guesses. We publish research from the same dataset at bestappify.app/blog, with the method shown, so anyone can check how the numbers are produced.
