This is a case where you might want a lawyer to look it over, actually. If you do go this route, make sure it's a good one. A good lawyer is a lifesaver, a shitty one can set you way back. I found avvo.com to be a great resource to vet them, but I'm sure it's not the only one like it. Source: over 2 years ago
I always consult an attorney in any situation that remotely warrants it. I go on a referral site like avvo.com (think that's it) and buy a cheap, quick consult (like 20 or 30 bucks). I pick the attorney's brain, get all my concerns out. In your case, I would try to find out what I could say to threaten him back, I mean a legal threat of course, or else I'd try to find out specific legal language that I could use... We found ours on avvo.com, there's a ton of reviews on there and some attys are absolutely slaughtered in the reviews so you have a pretty good indication the site is legitimate, lol. It's a referral and review site for attorneys in all areas of practice, not just immigration. Source: over 2 years ago
Get on avvo.com and look for either a criminal defense attorney if you've been charged criminally. and stop talking about your case until you talk to your atty. Source: over 2 years ago
No advice for an actual lawyer in that area but go on avvo.com and search for a highly rated family law attorney. This worked wonders for me!! Good luck OP! Source: almost 3 years ago
As for the $600-800: Did you actually spend that much (on cleaning supplies, etc.), or does that mostly comprise the value of your time? If the latter, then I think it's unlikely that you'll get anything. (If you could successfully sue people for wasting your time, just think what would happen to all the telemarketers!) But I'm just speculating - if you want a real answer, your best bet is to ask a lawyer. The... Source: almost 3 years ago
Isn't this religious discrimination? You believe in abortions, he doesn't. Contact your local EEOC office asap. Contrary to reddit beliefs, EEOC lawyers do take "future commission" cases. You just have to find one via avvo.com or other sites (and yes, you'll run into plenty of sharks first). Source: about 3 years ago
I note, however, that there might not be a form. This same question has been posted at least twice on avvo.com, which has licensed attorneys post answers (for PA and IL, and Morocco and France, respectively). In both cases, the consensus was that no such form existed in those states. See https://www.avvo.com/legal-answers/how-to-get-a-certificate-of-no-appeal-for-a-divorc-2495471.html and... Here is the company they are competing with that sold for around $1B: avvo.com. Source: about 3 years ago
I suggest looking at reviews on avvo.com. It's like yelp for finding a lawyer. I had an excellent experience with a real estate attorney I found on there. Source: about 3 years ago
Hey OP, lots of good advice here so I won't need to repeat. If you do lawyer up, I highly recommend avvo.com to review lawyers. Remember, family law attorney and LISTEN to them. It's better to take a little short term loss for long term wins. The faster you can get legally divorced, the better! Source: about 3 years ago
If she cannot get a recommendation from someone else who has been through divorce, she can take a look at avvo.com. Source: about 3 years ago
You can also "lawyer shop" on avvo.com (which is like google for find-a-lawyer). Source: about 3 years ago
Other than that all you could do is contact a lawyer and inquire about a small claims lawsuit. I highly recommend avvo.com you can sign up and ask a question for free, and lawyers will get back to you with options. If one of them tells you it might be worth it for a $300 lawsuit you can talk about it further. Source: about 3 years ago
There is a site avvo.com where I'm sure you can find a load of personal injury attorneys (I'd be careful, b/c they are a lot of ambulance chasers in that field, so you want a good one, that want to send you to a chiropractor for a skin condition & run their practices like a chop shop)... Definitely talk to a lawyer (or several lawyers) to make sure you're doing everything by the book. (Don't, for example, just take it upon yourself to stop paying your full rent - that could set you up for some trouble.) If you need help getting pointed in the right direction, avvo.com can be a good place to ask questions to people who know what they're talking about. The Oregon Landlord-Tenant Q&A boards is... Well, you know you are done, so time to start moving forward. Find a good family law attorney, look at avvo.com to find reviews and don't take less than 50/50. From what I saw in your comments, sounds like that is the default and it's OK. Unless she is a majory druggy or alcoholic, it's not likely to move from that so put your effort into getting out with your assets and ability to start a new life with your kids. Avvo.com if you haven't found it yet. Source: over 3 years ago
You can ask r/legaladvice or even go to avvo.com to speak to an actual attorney, but since you had the presumption that they were 18 and they lied and you stopped RPing with them soon as you found out, then no I don't think you'll face any legal consequences. Source: over 3 years ago
Avvo, a platform renowned for providing legal services and information, has undeniably established itself as a significant player in the legal domain since its inception in 2006. The platform primarily aims to facilitate individuals in locating, researching, and connecting with qualified attorneys. Avvo's offerings include detailed lawyer profiles, client reviews, a proprietary "Avvo rating," and various advertising services to increase exposure for legal professionals on the site. This multitude of features results in a robust resource for those seeking legal advice or representation, aligning Avvo with competitors such as Rocket Lawyer and LegalZoom.
One of the key aspects of Avvo's service is its interactive component, allowing clients to rate and review attorneys. The site also assigns an "Avvo rating" derived from an attorney's work history and qualifications listed on their profile. This rating system, however, faces some criticism. Concerns have been raised about its accuracy, as newer lawyers sometimes obtain higher ratings than their more experienced counterparts. Additionally, lawyers have limited control over the information that populates their profiles, sometimes leading to contention regarding fairness and transparency.
Despite this controversy, Avvo remains a popular destination for individuals seeking legal services. Many users value the platform's extensive database of lawyer reviews and ratings, often likening it to Yelp for attorneys. In this context, Avvo's platform serves as a critical tool for vetting legal professionals, especially for those who lack personal recommendations or referrals. This utility is reflected in numerous personal anecdotes, where users highlight positive experiences in finding competent legal representation through Avvo.
Moreover, Avvo's question and answer boards provide a venue for individuals to pose legal inquiries, which are addressed by licensed attorneys. This feature grants users access to professional legal insights without the financial commitment of a formal consultation. As a result, Avvo is frequently recommended as a starting point for those navigating legal challenges, from family law and immigration to small claims and landlord-tenant disputes.
In light of the platform's comprehensive service offerings and user-centric model, Avvo has garnered a largely favorable public opinion. The vast network of user reviews and the ratings system offer a degree of transparency and choice that is otherwise difficult to achieve independently. Nevertheless, the platform is not without its critics, who caution potential users about the occasional disconnect between a lawyer's Avvo rating and their actual capabilities.
In conclusion, Avvo stands as a pivotal resource in the legal services landscape, balancing strengths and limitations. By providing access to legal expertise alongside a platform for peer reviews, Avvo empowers users with information and choices. This duality positions it not only as a prominent player in the industry but as a valuable ally to those navigating the complexities of the legal world.
