  • Firefox 127
To Firefox's credit, they are the last major browser to inject themselves into our computer's startup (and at least they are providing notice and a way to disable it). I find it not only annoying but arrogant how most other software companies assume our lives revolve around their particular tool. So much so that, obviously, we must want their software to leech our time, bandwidth and power running its setup... - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • The Windows Context Menu – Is It a Lost Cause?
Also Autoruns from SysInternals ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns ) "Explorer" tab lets you un-check / check individual entries. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
  • My three year old Surface Pro 7 is running very slow - is this normal?
So perhaps it's time for autoruns: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns or a perf trace to rule out a hardware fault: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/test/wpt/windows-performance-analyzer. Source: 10 months ago
  • "HELP" How can I remove this? (Always appreas on startup)
You can also disable it with Autorun. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Windows Repair Toolbox
i've got cut/copy/paste on my context menu in 11... Check out autoruns [0] for easily cleaning context menu, startup junk, etc. [0] https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • piratebay ‘anonymous download’ option
You can use autoruns with virus total to check if you have anything turned on that shouldnt be running Https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Can’t find a legitimate solution to a legitimate concern
Review startup items for things you never use that are running anyway (Attack surface reduction) Autoruns Note: Be careful with this one. It is a powerful tool. Read all the documentation. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns Bonus: It also finds malware. It has VirusTotal integration. Don't worry if it detects like 2/60 or 3/60. VirusTotal always has a bit of a false positive rate... Source: about 1 year ago
  • New omen 16. Why is my GPU usage so high when nothing is happening? Even with mux switch on it keep jumping up and down from 5-40% GPU usage. Download speed also jumps between 2 and 8 MB/s every second or two
In Omens there are two software drivers, that install when you connect to internet, the laptop first time without your knowledge. They are not needed. They are named: HP APPLICATION DRIVER and HP OMEN DRIVER. Those two contols all others HP apps, thet get installed when yo connect first time to `net or they are already there by default. The purpose of them are to enable telemetry... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Need Help - Did something Stupid
Or use Autoruns to track where you added the startup entry (there are over a dozen places where you can do so). But beware, just because you can enable and disable stuff with Autoruns doesn't mean you should. Don't change anything unless you know what exactly something does, why it does it, and what exactly will happen (or not) if you change it. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What should I do to determine if I have been infected with malware?
What do I do? You sound technical enough to download sysinternals "autoruns" tool: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns. Source: over 1 year ago
  • is this a virus?
Windows often does strange things for no specific reason. That aside, if you're really paranoid about these files, you can run several anti-virus scans using different software (I've got a list if you're interested), there's also Windows Defender which is there by default. As for the cmd popup, this may be due to a scheduled task or a run key in the registry. You can use this tool from Microsoft system internals... Source: over 1 year ago
  • BSOD (almost) every time booting the computer.
That dump file shows a system uptime a little over 24 hours and SSPORT.SYS as loaded. Did you restart the computer after uninstalling the driver? If not, it may have still been in memory after the uninstall and potentially causing issues. Either way, I'd recommend using the Find option in Autoruns to see if the system is still configured to load SSPORTS.SYS. You'll want to use the Run as administrator option when... • New tabs randomly opening. Help!
Check scheduled tasks and your startup items using Autoruns. I suspect some kind of malware has created a scheduled tasks to download something every few minutes. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Command prompt opens 5-10 mins after I turn on my pc
Github is a legitimate website owned by microsoft, used for publishing the source code of open source programs. They do have a desktop client, however if you did not install it, it could be malware pretending to be it. Run a malwarebytes scan, and check Autoruns. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Command prompt opens 5-10 mins after I turn on my pc
Download autoruns, check for anything weird on startup. Although this has happened to me before and I was fine, I think it can happen if there are corrupted files on your drive? Like if you shut your pc off at the power, and windows is trying to fix them. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Win10 always makes my 3rd party firewall start way too late. How can I make the firewall the first program that starts after a login?
For the executable, but this didn't help. I also tested AutoRuns, but I wasn't able to find out how to change the startup priority. Source: over 1 year ago
  • How can I disable Adobe Creative Cloud processes from running in the background? (Windows 11)
Yes. Here is the link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/autoruns. Source: over 1 year ago
  • 2FA still being bypassed after clean windows install
Not always; but I don’t like the sound of that being something you see often. Download Autoruns and take a peek at what you have going on at startup. Source: over 1 year ago
  • How do I get rid of this caps lock icon notification everytime I press Cap locks
If that's the case, download Autotuns from Microsoft Sysinternals, launch it as Administrator, and un-tick all elements called "Launch Manager" or "lmanager" by Acer or Dritek. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Do i Have Crypto Miner?after installing gta 4 from ocean of games my cpu usage goes from 100 to 8 and dedicated and integrated gpu usage spikes too, is this normal? also i scanned my pc with Malwarebytes bitdefender and nothing shows up ( im new to these stuff )
Well GTA 4 is horribly optimized and RDR2 is quite a new game so it'd make sense why a laptop GPU might be so utilised. If the GPU isn't constantly peaking and you really completely reinstalled windows, then I wouldn't worry, it's probably just the computer. Check start-up and scheduled tasks with ProcessMonitor and Autoruns. If you don't find anything suspicious and the issue persists/ is very annoying then I'd... Source: over 1 year ago
  • Muse Hub malware-like behavior and dark/shady patterns on windows 11
You can disable the Muse Hub service by downloading Autoruns, going to the Services tab, and then unchecking the Muse Hub service. Source: over 1 year ago
